Do You Like Good Music? Yeah, Yeah

The street musicians are becoming more regular outside our windows and around town. I've already witnessed some great performers. I recorded a high-energy, talented jazz combo one day down by the marina. The video is very large; one of these days I'll load it and share it. In the meantime, I've decided to share a couple of very brief clips. No need to thank me now. After you hear them, you probably won't want to.

Loungeless Act
This first performer actually has quite a voice. But he reminded me of some of the lounge acts I witnessed in places like Palm Springs, California. He puts his "lounge" on the back of his scooter and walks the paseo in the evening.

THE LOUNGE LIZARD.

Oh, Bring Back My Bonnie [Raitt] to Me
As for the next guy, who arrived moments after Loungeless Act departed, he pretended to play "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." I was tempted to toss him money from the terrace if he would simply go across the sea to find his Bonnie instead of waiting around for someone to bring her back. But the next time I see him, I'll give him something as a thank-you for the video clip and photo. At the very end of the brief clip, you can hear the best of what this guy had to offer. And that's all I'm saying.

"THE SEA" IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. SHOULD I TELL HIM?

And I hope it's more GOOD music as opposed to "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean"!

  2. I can't imagine living in a place where you get serenaded directly under your window on a daily basis. How wonderful and how terrible!

Yep, wonderful and terrible. Some days, "My Way," "Oh How We Danced," and "Cielito Lindo" get kind of old!

  3. Great!
I'll be singing 'Bonnie' all day long.

The only upside is that it will annoy my co-workers.

I hope your co-workers survived the day-long serenade. It couldn't be any worse than this guy!

  4. Reminds me of one of the Laurel & Hardy shorts.
L & H have set up their act in a street and Hardy has only just started crooning.
Lady shouts from upstairs window (something like):-

"Excuse me. How much do you make in one street?"
    Hardy: "Why, about 50 cents."
Lady: "I'll give you a dollar. Now please move yourselves two street away!"

I love that Laurel & Hardy bit. That idea is a constant topic of discussion. The fear is they'll come back more often just to get paid to leave.

  5. It strikes me as odd that a street performer in a tourist area would be singing a Scottish song. Wouldn't a local song attract more pesos (or whatever the local currency is)?

Many play to please their tourist audiences who sometimes only like what they recognize. Too bad.

  6. Hopefully as the season progresses the 'talent' will improve!! Can't wait to follow this, Mitch. How can the second guy make $$$ if he just ups and leaves?

As my sister used to say ,"From your mouth to God's ears."

Both guys walked around the patio passing the hat before playing their final numbers.

  7. Ha ha, great clips. The first guy did have a strong voice. Sounded like a real pub singer to me.

The first guy truly does have a strong voice. It's amazing some of the talent you find in street performers.

  8. I thought he sounded pretty good, but I'm terrible when it comes to singing and can't carry a tune.

I also think Loungeless Lizard has a great voice. Don't know about presentation (except that he got my attention). As for Bonnie's ex, I could do without that.

  10. After a summer of that I will be interested to see how your posts are :-) or, maybe, the street artists of Seville have, one by one, mysteriously disappeared!
    Ho hum!

We had "musicians" performing below our windows in Sevilla, too. Sometimes, we liked them. And, other times, they caused us to use really bad language. I'm sure it will be the same here.

  11. Oh, my. :-)

Minneapolis has street musicians, some of which are actually street "musicians" -- there's a guy that pounds an electric piano without regard to key, meter, audience or good taste -- but so far no one's amplifying their voices.

    :-)

There are an awful lot of musicians around (in Sevilla, too) who carry their own "amp band" along with them. I like them better without all that.
