Another One Bites The Dust

O, CRUEL WINTER.
We went to bed Christmas Eve with visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads and we woke during the night with visions of a "twister" picking us up and dropping us back in Kansas (because we've already been over the rainbow).

San Geraldo's cyclonic winds were back. Stronger than ever. About 4 a.m., I heard some odd rattling. Two of our three yuccas are in the protected, front corner of the terrace. One is not. However, it's wired to the wall in two places. Where could it possibly go?

Where could it possibly go? Down. The strongly wired yucca could possibly go down.

I heard a crash followed by the musical sound of cascading stones hitting the tile floor.

The stones, by the way, have worked really well at keeping the soil from blowing out of the pots. Except when the entire pot is blown over. But at least the stones, unlike the soil, stay where they land.

AND ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST.

It was raining fairly heavily through the night, so I decided to wait until sunrise to right the yucca. I hooded up and braved the rain at about 7 a.m. I righted three other large plants, as well. Those are low and heavy and designed to never blow over.

The winds came and went throughout Christmas Day and continued through the night. The yucca bit the dust again. San Geraldo righted it this morning in beautiful sunshine.

A MUCH NICER MORNING FOR RIGHTING A YUCCA.

Hello. My Name is Stupid.
When I was taking this morning's 'happy pill' I noticed that the dosage read 50 mg when it's supposed to be 100 mg. It turns out I got the wrong dosage at the pharmacy last month. I'm sure it was my own fault. Prescriptions aren't required for non-narcotics and I probably brought in an empty box to show what I needed refilled. The wrong empty... Oddly, the pills look identical (but the dosage is marked on the side). So, I've been taking half my dosage for nearly a month. Just give me some more chocolate.

(Oh, I know for certain that by referring to myself as "Stupid," I'm going to be in big trouble with San Geraldo. But, as our niece Sara once said in her expertly delivered "woe-is-me" style, "I'm not well!")

Speaking of Biting the Dust
The treats purchased Monday are quickly disappearing. Only one [large] bar of chocolate remains.

Oh, and the two chocolate bars made by Ana Crespillo's brother.

Well, then there's a box of After Eight mints given to us yesterday by Slushee, Darren, and Antony. I suppose I don't need to worry just yet about going into withdrawal.

  1. We've only just got over one Atlantic storm, Mitch, but there's another one heading this way tonight and over tomorrow. I guess they are the same turbulences that are causing your own disruptions. Wouldn't be surprised to learn that there's going to be a chain of them.
The positive aspect for us, though, is that temps have been unseasonably mild - and at least for that I'm grateful, though no fun at all for those trying to travel and, even moreso, for those affected by flooding in the heavy rainfall. You keep safe now!

Btw: Re prescriptions. A couple of years ago when I made a request for a renewed prescription for 2 X 28 units of one particular blood pressure medication, the doctor's requisition to the chemist was for 500 tablets at double the strength of my usual. Jolly good thing I noticed. Phew! If you can't rely on doctors........

Our weather is clearly nothing to complain about, especially since the last couple of days have again been beautiful. People were actually lying on the beach today (they're obviously not from around here). I tend to be really careless with my prescriptions. Glad you were more aware!

  2. Man, oh, man, I'm so glad that you finally caught the dosage mixup. Yikes! I'm glad to know that this will probably mean that you'll be feeling better soon (and the rest of the world will get a share of the chocolate out there that is meant for ALL of us ;)

Scary, these heavy winds when you're right on the shore. Amazing!

Self-inflicted depression. Ugh! I love the winds (if they'd just leave our plants alone). But we'll probably get it resolved with some glass sliders. As for the chocolate... I haven't ordered any from your part of the world; so, you're stock is safe.

    2. Whew! Glad to know that the paraffin-filled, not-nearly-so-tasty-as-European-chocolate stock is safe for me to consumer over here ;)

    3. oops--- consume, not consumer (my brain must have been thinking in French -er verb mode *LOL*)

    4. Judy:
We've got plenty of that paraffin-filled stuff here, too. And I'm "consumering" my share (but not yours) of that...

  3. I picture you fighting the twister on the balcony screaming to San Geraldo: "Need .... More .... Chocolate!"

No problem. With all the chocolate I've had, I'm faster than the wind!

  4. Another One Bites the Dust is very much how I feel about Christmas Day. The cyclonic winds must be fearful to blow plants over like that. I notice you have similar lightweight chairs on the balcony to our own. Don't they blow around? Glad you picked up the dosage problem.

I know that feeling of just wanting the "special day" to be over and done. And we're not alone.

The lightweight chairs rattle but the wind blows right through them (well, so far, at least).

  5. Yep...like Andrew "another one bites the dust" is how I feel at this time of year too...on the other hand, Freddie! Can't get enough of Queen. Anyhow, glad you caught the dosage discrepancy.

I think there are more of us who just want the holiday to pass quickly than there are those who love every minute of it. But then I do like some of it... like San Geraldo is about to start baking!

  6. OH NO! The 'cyclonic winds' return! Should have called me! I was awake all night due to too much coffee which I NEVER drink....would have gladly helped!! lol Gets pretty wild there I see.
Good you 'caught' that prescription error. Happy the chocolate made up for the other half!!
    Gotta love Freddie!

The chocolate has finally put me over the edge. I actually haven't had any today. (Maybe that's a good sign.)

  7. A little wind isn't too high a price to pay for living with that million dollar view.

There has been flooding and damage nearby, but we've just gotten to see the beauty and power (OK, and yuccas). And, yes, the view and location make any windy moments worth it.

  8. I hate the wind. We're having another wind event today (Friday), but it's predicted to be a lot less trouble than Tuesday's.

I love watching the wind on the sea and beach from our safe viewpoint. (Just as long as it remains safe.) Hope your weather has been uneventful today.

  9. Sorry about the "stupid moment", no wonder the month felt 1/2 there or 1/2 speedy or whatever. Chocolate should really take care of everything, right!!

I'm SO confused. I thought you were referring to YOUR stupid moment and I sat and scratched my head wondering what that was. Anyway, lots of stupid moments lately. I don't know if chocolate really helps... but it doesn't seem to hurt any!
