The Nutcracker's Sweet

What's your favorite Christmas song? I couldn't answer that question myself. Too many favorites. One of those is that classic, "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)," by David Seville and his brilliantly talented harmonizers, Alvin and The Chipmunks. It drives San Geraldo crazy when I play that song. So, it surprised me yesterday when he forwarded the below YouTube video link to me. It's members of the cast of "Glee" lip-synching to the Chipmunks. Why didn't this make San Geraldo want to pull his hair out, too, I wonder.

Oh, now I get it. It's those snappy, big red suspenders on “David Seville.” I'll have to get myself a pair. (And I do still want a hula hoop.)

Saturday Market
After coffee at Café Manila this morning, San Geraldo and I walked over to Fuengirola's Saturday [Flea] Market. The crowds (and fleas) very quickly got to San Geraldo. He lasted about 15 minutes and went home. I walked the entire fair grounds looking for something to buy. I didn't find anything I couldn't live without. I was, however, tempted...

THIS IS THE SWEET NUTCRACKER IN THE TITLE.
AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT... 24+ INCHES OF [PLASTIC] MANHOOD?
I USUALLY HATE THE GAME, BUT THIS ONE GOT MY ATTENTION.
ANTI-MONOPOLY, THE GAME OF THE 21ST-CENTURY ECONOMY.
THIS DISTURBING BRIDE MADE ME THINK OF MISS HAVISHAM.
A MUSICAL CLIMBING SANTA (PAPA NOEL).
MY FIRST TWO-TAILED MERMAN.  IT TURNS OUT IT'S NOT SO UNUSUAL.
BUT, FINALLY...  I NEED THIS LIKE I NEED A HOLE IN THE HEAD.

  1. You mean people don't put nuts between their butt-cheeks to crack them any more?

  2. That Glee scene was quite breathtaking to see, but i will have to say that, while not a religious man, my favorite holiday song is Jennifer Hudson's version of 'O Holy Night.'
    Makes me weep a bit.

  3. Do you find the Saturday market expensive? When I go I find much of the "tat" comically overpriced! Though I do find it an agreeable way to spend an hour or so.

Nothing like a simple little Christmas carol! And don't get me started on where that concert takes place... Well, you've got me started...

As for the market, I was surprised by the higher-than-expected prices of the things I liked. There were lots of €1 and €2 items, but many of those needed to be sanitized before I would pick them up.

  4. Would you consider putting a nut in that sweet thing and showing us how it works? (I'm trying to write this without double meanings or tongue in cheek... oh heck... it just gets worse).... But still... curious minds and all.....

I would demonstrate, but I didn't buy it. You'll just have to use your imagination. I have a feeling you've already figured it out.

  5. You find that bride-doll creepy...what about that super-creepy baby??? Ugh!

Looking for a link to my favourite Christmas song, Tim Minchin's "White wine in the sun". A perfect summation of an Antipodean Christmas. Just one moment ...

Oh, yeah, I found that baby creepy, too. Having all the differently sized and proportioned dolls mixed together makes for a very scary display. One was so bad, I couldn't even stop for a picture.

Here we go. I love Tim Minchin. He can't sing very well, but I love him anyway.

I had never heard of this song or Tim Minchin, but I was introduced to both on someone's blog last year. I do like the lyrics (and you're right about the voice)!

  7. My uncle used to have a Charlie Weaver doll dressed like Santa and when you switched it on it sang drunken Christmas carols. It always creeped me out but it was party of our Christmas tradition.

I'd love that Charlie Weaver doll... now. As a child, that would have creeped me out, too.

I have a great time wandering, but never find any of the kinds of things I'm looking for. Now if they had a pair of those red suspenders...

  11. I didn't know this Chipmunks song either. Pity that I could hardly catch a single word - apart from something about hula hoops? (Now that really IS going back to my era - hula hoops and hip dislocations, I mean.)

The most important line ... sung by Alvin: "Me, I want a hula hoop." Simon (or Theodore) wants "...a train that loops the loop." It's right up there with "O Holy Night."
