With a Capital "T"

Dudo and Moose have been acting a bit peculiar since I spent those few days in Madrid. When I first returned home, they demanded a treat... immediately. Once I obeyed, they gave me the cold shoulder. That lasted a few hours. I promised them we weren't moving again and I thought things were back to normal. But then I noticed them sneaking up behind me and staring at me strangely. It was a bit spooky. I couldn't figure out what had come over them. (It was as if they'd been taken over by their "jungle animal extincts.")

DUDO...

MOOSE...
DOWNRIGHT RUDE...

I walked in on them in the living room yesterday just before lunch and I now know what the trouble is. In my absence they'd discovered the game of "pool." Snooker actually, but we all know where that leads.

DUDO HAS THE MOVES.
MOOSE LURKS AROUND THE CORNER.
TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE

Final Note
Truth is, the boys did give me attitude for a few hours. But they're back to being loving, sweet, playful, and excruciatingly attentive. And they still immediately come in from the terrace when I call (and they still do not when San Geraldo calls). Although Dudo just swaggered by with a cigarette behind his ear.

  1. Watch out if they start carrying pool cues!

  2. I just love your stories about 'the boys', Mitchell! They certainly keep themselves, and I am sure you and San Geraldo, amused. They are adorable and you must be beyond yourself that you all share your lives with one another. They worked out very well I'd say!

They are an absolute joy and they continue to bond more strongly with us with each passing day. I can't believe how affectionate they've both become. We are so grateful!

And "ditto" what I just said to Jim. The best decision we ever made... well, one of many, I suppose!

  4. Next they will be coming home at 3 oclock in the morning from God knows where :)

  5. I hope Dudo doesn't develop a two pack a day problem.

He barely gets through one cigarette. Too difficult to hold between his "fingers."

  6. We put a cat in a cattery once while we were on holidays. Once returned, she physically attacked us without mercy.

One of our former cats would be so happy to see us after one of these stays, as if to say, "Thank you for saving me! You don't know what I've been through." He wasn't quite as bright as his brother who turned his back on us, as if to say, "Don't think I don't remember who put me there in the first place."

  7. Glad they decided to "make nice" again... there's nothing worse than when your cat(s) are pissed at you... they really know how to make life miserable and make you feel guilty... Jewish mothers don't even come close to cats!

Well, I don't know if I'd agree with you about cats being better at it than Jewish mothers... But it's a possibility.

  8. I've known many cats who are truculent when their owners return; this is a common tale.

Cat "attitude" is hilarious. Does Harper give you guys attitude? Our cat in California, Dobie, would turn his back on us after we had a vacation -- or took him to the vet. He loved to be petted and he'd sometimes momentarily forget he was supposed to be mad at us. Suddenly, he'd remember and he'd move away.

  9. My girls will snob me on days when I don't come home for lunch
and was gone all day. Imagine if I left for a few days...
    Yikes!!!
Cats are certainly fascinating and unpredictable.

We don't get snubbed if we're out too long during the day; we get BESET! But, you're right, even though Dudo thinks if you do something once it means you will do the same thing every day, he still surprises us by doing something he's never done before.

  10. By the looks in their eyes, in your absence they've been possessed. I think they're going to start conspiring against you by whispers to each other. I think that you'd better do exactly what they want. In other words - no change!

There's not doubt about who's in charge here. I know my place.

  11. Sundance and Cassidy do this, too. If Tom and I are both out all day, when we get back they make their displeasure known -- after they get their snack, of course. Then we get the where-the-hell-have-you-been-and-why-was-no-one-assigned-to-give-us-a-snack-while-you-were-away stare.

They already speak perfect English and Spanish. They're even good with Andalusian dialect. Brilliant.
