Blooming Bottle Brushes in Los Boliches

Despite being bug-eaten and brutally battered (by San Geraldo's cyclonic winds), our three beleaguered bottle brush bushes are blooming (along with much more on our terrace and around town). It's been looking a lot like spring.

BOTTLE BRUSH IN BLOOM ON OUR TERRACE.
(CLICK FOR A CLOSER LOOK ... AT THE POLLEN.)

This is our one-year anniversary on the beach and I do remember that our first few weeks here were not very pleasant weather-wise; so I expect we haven't seen the end of winter yet. Temps won't even hit as much as 20C/68F every day. As a matter of fact, I think tomorrow is only supposed to reach 19C. Woe is us.

AND LOOK WHAT'S IN BLOOM ON THE TERRACE AT CAFÉ MANILA.
BOTTLE BRUSH SLUSHEE!  (UNPOLLENATED.)

I've finished this round of antibiotics. My swollen glands are almost gone (and never got very bad this time). I've lost about 4 kilos (9 pounds), which I did not want or need to lose. My clothes are hanging off me. I'm tired. My stomach is still unsettled. I'm not the most charming company (to say the least). And I sigh a lot.  *SIGH*

But, as Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day."

Maybe I'll wear my new swimsuit to the beach... Watch the video to see my the tassel.

  1. Sounds like the infection and/or antibiotics have taken their toll on you. That's a lot of weight to lose in such a short time. Hope you feel better soon. ((Big Hug)).

    I love Bottle Brush Slushee!

Bottle Brush Slushee got a kick out of "unpollenated"... Well I think it was more like she wanted to kick ME!

  2. Scarlett, I see you haven't lost your sense of humour to that awful infection you had! And 9 pounds too......a few churros will get you back to normal weight!
Happy you are on the mend Mitch. And enjoy the weather and blossoms.

I haven't had a churro since we moved here a year ago! And Fuengirola is supposed to be the best place for them. I'll have to sneak off without the dieting San Geraldo. Maybe a nap on the beach today.

Regarding the weight, it's the story of my life! San Geraldo wishes he had my problem.

No worries about the swim trunks, I'll just pull that tassel a little tighter.

Lots of native Australians (plants) here. And I've never seen so many large Norfolk Island Pines. Obviously, Australia is a beautiful place.

I love to walk. And I love that they burn fat. But I hate to be "skinny." Time again to hit the weights and the protein shakes!

  7. You know I'd take your bad weather over mine any day now.
9 pounds? Want some of mine, I could fedex them to you!!!
Have a cocktail!! They always say drinks have a lot of calories in them.
I can attest to that fact... Where do you think I got those 9 pounds
    I'm willing to ship you?!?
Love Carol!! That's pretty much how I learned my English, Laugh-in, Carol Burnett Show, and the Flintstones. Which might explain a lot...
Should we expect you to be wearing purple throws and curtains soon?!?
That would be quite the sensation at the beach, I'm sure!! (Take pictures!!)
    Take care Mitch!!

Lots of people would like to give me their excess weight. Sadly, no one wants to hand over the muscle... just the fat. I'll take your advice and will drink more. Bailey's Irish Cream is high in calories, I'm sure. After I mentioned the curtains, I realized we only have vertical blinds here. What would you think of a vertical-blind bathing suit? (I'm trying to figure out what to do with the wand.)

    2. Do you REALLY want me to answer that one?!?
You know only too well [or you should by now] where that's going...

We had a bottle brush tree and a few dwarf bushes in San Diego. The Latin name is Callistemon and hummingbirds love them.
