Lucha Libre

It was a dreary day here in Fuengirola. Rainy, windy, raw. The high temperature was a chilly 16C/61F. Be kind! With the damp and the wind off the sea, it felt a lot colder. It's now down to a bitter 14C/57F and it's supposed to hit 11C/52F overnight. Remember the damp and the wind... and my thin blood.

NOT A DAY FOR LUNCH ON THE TERRACE.

I had great plans to get indoor things done today — like cleaning and organizing the utility room, cleaning bathrooms, reorganizing the kitchen, sewing buttons on a jacket, stitching a seam on a sweater. Great plans. Instead, I spent most of the day playing with the cats or with Dudo asleep on my lap or with Moose asleep by my side. No cleaning. No organizing. No buttons sewn. No seams stitched. But I did manage to catch some lucha libre (freestyle wrestling).

My favorite wrestlers are a couple of brothers called Los Gatos — otherwise known as Dudo and Moose. Dudo wrestles under the name "The Dude." Moose doesn't need a pseudonym.

The Dude Working Out On The Bags

THE CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG.
PRACTICING HIS THREATENING GLARE.

AND THE CAT IS "IN THE BAG" ONCE AGAIN.

Los Gatos
MOOSE AND THE STEALTH ATTACK.
A HEADLOCK.
AND THEN A GOOD LICKING.
BUT THE DUDE TOUGHS IT OUT.
AND MOOSE CONCEDES.

A Match Highlight

  1. In the 20's in Long Island, Mitch.........can't find too much sympathy. Sorry.

Love and hugs to you both (and Los Gatos)!

Can't believe the weather you've been having. But I have to say it rained again here all day today. The wind is whistling through the windows. And the temperature never even made it into the 20s (Oh, don't quibble with me about the different Celcius and Fahrenheit...)

  2. Those two act like all siblings... lots of posturing, bickering and downright dirty fighting... until an outsider steps in... what a united front then!

They adore each other. But Dudo doesn't like sharing me with Moose when we're playing. So today, Dudo and I were playing with his string; Moose walked slowly between us (intending to grab the string and play along); Dudo bit him on the leg (just gave him some teeth really) and he then took one paw and shoved him off the bed. Siblings.

  3. I know Mitch, that dampness makes all the difference in the world! That's what I tell my 'prairie' sibs.....they have dry cold, we have wet cold!! So I guess I do have some sympathy for you.
Now to 'the boys'.....they mean business don't they! Dudo was the victor, right? Last man standing?
    Great photo series.

I knew I could count on you to [pretend to] understand... Moose starts a lot of the wrestling matches and then walks off when Dudo gets carried away (i.e., wins).

  4. Reminds me when I was a kid and wrestled with my brother. "It will end in tears", called my mother, and it usually did.

Mothers are so all-knowing... Moose yowls like that even when he's the instigator. I think he's trying to fake Dudo out.

  5. You need to get them two little masks like the Mexican wrestlers wear. It almost looked like they were wrestling for "the spot" but when all was said and done, they both left "the spot". Too cute.

I had actually toyed with making masks for them (in Photoshop... as if they would EVER let me put real masks on them). Dudo does push Moose away from "the spot" regularly. But more often he'll just squeeze in anywhere with him. (That bed is not one of "the spots.")

  6. I'll ignore the references to your bitter temps (poor guys! poor poor guys! ;) ) and get right to those cutesy patootsy gatos -- love those furry fellows!

No sympathy, huh. (I can hear the wind howling outside right now.) Los gatos want us to open the door. Not happening.

I make a point of discouraging that leg-attack routine the first time any of our cats try it. I'd have to buy stock in Neosporin (I'm such a delicate flower).

  8. Grammar error.... let's try again:

Whichever one that's on the top--and I'm thinking Dudo--he really knows how to work that tail!

Yes, Dudo's tail is especially entertaining. You sure can tell when he's excited. It snaps like a whip.

  9. Gads, what is it about cats and bags?
I used to put down a white plastic bag and the cat would run right into it. I would pick it up and give it a mild hammock rock (please don't write in!) and he would do this over and over and over...... cats are from outer space indeed.

Our old cats, Dobie and Maynard (also brothers), wouldn't go near bags. Thelma loved plastic bags until she got her head stuck in the handles one night. After she went flying around the house and across my bed, I had to rescue her from the closet... She never went near a plastic bag again. These guys love them... and Dudo has even gotten stuck on one once.

  10. I am a little bit envious of your darling cats. I have lived ten years without a significant pet in my life (apart from AGA). Once they make a place in your heart there is no shifting them. AGA has said that when we are in our own home we may have two dogs and a cat. I can't wait!

We had birds in the '80s until '93. When we moved cross-country to San Diego, we didn't think it was a good idea to take them all that way. San Geraldo made me promise we could get a cat as soon as we bought a new house. When I agreed, he changed it to two cats ("They need company"). It took us 3 years to buy the house, but one month after we did, we had Dobie and Maynard. The best deal I ever struck!
