Stripes Perhaps

Oh, the things one sees by the seaside. Hoo, hoo, by the beautiful sea.

SUPER MARIO BROTHERS? (I HAVE NO IDEA.)
SEE NOTE*
I'VE BEEN SEEING THIS LOOK QUITE OFTEN AROUND TOWN.
NOT EASY TO SURREPTITIOUSLY GET A SHOT.
HIS (PINK) AND HERS...
IF I HAD HAIR, I'D DO IT, TOO...  OR NOT.
ANOTHER 4-YEAR-OLD FOAMING AT THE MOUTH???
[AEROSOL] WHIPPED CREAM.  SUGAR RUSH, ANYONE?
I WISH I COULD HAVE GOTTEN A SHOT OF THIS GUY STANDING UP.
BLUE, RED, AND WHITE STRIPES FROM HEAD TO KNEES...

"Oh, Mr. Todd, I can see us now in our new bathing dresses.
You in a nice navy, and me... stripes, perhaps."

*NOTE:
I've since learned (from dear friend Slushee) that these are not the Mario Brothers. These are the "118 Twins," part of a years-long advertising campaign for a UK-based telephone information service. So, I now know who those two guys were dressed up as, but I still have absolutely no idea why.

If they did, half the population could be ticketed!

I'm sure people must talk (and maybe even blog) about what I wear!

  4. The Super Mario Brothers look like they are the body guards for 'man dressed well'.
And I am with you Mitchell, if I had hair I too would try this and maybe be a lot more adventurous than I was!
Oh by the sea....on a beautiful warm summer day......enjoy.

The young guy with the odd collection of pony tails now has a Mohawk (and no pony tails). Ah, the wonders of the hairful.

Finally caught up on all my reading today. What a joy to follow your posts. San Geraldo was elated and honored. I really wish I could have gotten a shot of Sir Strips standing up. It was quite "surprising." Also, he had a real macho demeanor, which didn't quite go with the outfit.

I love the guys who roll their T-shirts up from the waist like that. I guess they're ensuring their bellies are tan for when they go out dancing at night in those little outfits that expose so much.

  7. What fun, really....People are being, well, very natural! I wonder about those super mario brothers. At first I thought they were on a team of some sort, but both of their shirts have the same number on them.

I added a note at the end of the post. Slushee informed me that those are in fact the 118 Twins -- UK Telephone Information. So now it all makes sense. Correct?

  8. Remember the old chewing gum commercial: "Yipes! Stripes!"

I didn't remember "Yipes! Stripes!" So I looked it up. I clearly remember Fruit Stripe gum. And as the commercial played (I found one from the '60s), it all came back to me!

  9. Mitch, only watchers of British TV would know this, but those two 'bros' in first pic are mimicking two similarly clad 'runners' who front a sponsorship company representing a commercial telephone enquiry service (Tel no. 118 118) and who come on before and after TV progs and in the ad breaks. The big Afro wigs and 'taches are a gentle piss-take on a particular two British athletes of the 1980s when they were at their running performance peak and such hair was the fashion. So now you know.

And now that I've watched five of the adverts on YouTube, I understand... who they are. I STILL don't understand why they were walking down the street in Los Boliches.

I used to do socks and sandals, too. And they are REALLY comfortable. It works in the Pacific Northwest, Northern New England, and places like that. Doesn't go over big in Southern California or among the fashion police. I don't know why I care... but they control me!

But I forgot to mention. That photo of the couple on the bench had nothing to do with the socks and sandals. That was all about the man's rolled up shirt.
