Gonna Get In My Car

San Geraldo and I rented a car today. We went to IKEA for linens, bathroom cabinets, and other stuff. Then went to Plaza Mayor where San Geraldo got LOADS more new clothes (three pairs of walking shorts and about a dozen shirts), while I got one (that's right, only ONE) V-neck T-shirt.

Later, we'll head to Iceland (the store, not the country). It's the only place in town that sells frozen fruit. San Geraldo loves the berries. Well, San Geraldo IS the berries.*

We went for a walk Tuesday and saw a number of cars that looked like they'd be so much fun to rent. (Although I'm really grateful we don't have the same kind of traffic in our neighborhood.)

Click on any image to understand why it was so difficult to make up our minds.

I LIKED THE PROFILE OF THE SEXY LITTLE GREEN NUMBER,
BUT THE YELLOW WAS ALSO KIND OF COOL.
AT FIRST GLANCE, WE BOTH FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS ONE...
THEN I NOTICED THE SICK (AS IN TOTALLY COOL)
WHEEL COVERS ON THE ONE AT LEFT.
WHEN THE WHITE CAR CAME INTO VIEW, I THOUGHT I HAD FOUND THE ONE.
BUT I SAW THE CURRENT RENTERS TREATING IT ROUGHLY.
THEN HE GOT STUCK...
... AND THERE WENT THE SHOCKS!
SO, THIS IS THE CAR WE HAD TO RENT.
(BESIDES, THE OTHERS WOULDN'T GET US ANYWHERE NEAR IKEA).

This song sums up the way I used to often feel as I drove to work. I'm so glad those days are over and I can simply enjoy the music and the talent.

*In case you didn't know, "the berries" is 1920s American slang for something pleasing... Just like "the bee's knees," "the cat's pajamas," and "the cat's meow".

I was surprised by how many adults were playing on those cars. But the crowds at that particular beach are more than I care to deal with.

The cars are new this year. Last year, they had "boats" with slides and only in a couple of places along the beaches. This year, there's a lot more spread along the coast. I'm just glad they're not outside our windows. Our beach remains relatively calm.

  4. Those cars are wonderful but I prefer normal ones. It is a great idea to rent a car on vacations especially with children.

But I'd much rather take children on the floating cars!

I DO love IKEA, but the light in there makes me ill. I don't know what it is.

That beach is about a 15-minute walk from us. It's a busier stretch of town and, since it's a fairly enclosed bay, the water remains shallow and warmer, and it's easier for parents to keep track of their kids (they can't wander off for 3 km in either direction. I wouldn't enjoy it there at all. So glad our beach is so much more serene.

Yep, I'm sure San Geraldo would turn it into a bumper car if he got behind the wheel. Isn't Bobby McFerrin incredidble?

You can count on me to teach you songs that are no longer popular and idioms that are no longer used!

  11. S.G. gets THREE pairs of walking shorts in one go? Hmmmm If you ask me, he's more keen on showing himself off than actually walking!

He's just so thrilled to be able to find clothes again that there's no stopping him. I, on the other hand, will just have to make do...
