Shake Your Bon-Bon

According to our local produce expert Ana Crespillo, along with many fruits and vegetables, chocolate is good for keeping things moving after surgery. San Geraldo had already loaded me up with chocolates (he's so good to me), so he brought home dates and figs from Ana.

San Geraldo has been showing superb self-control when it comes to the chocolates. But he clearly can't help himself when it comes to the dates. Each date is topped with a walnut. San Geraldo abhors walnuts. So, every time I decide to help myself to a date-walnut combo, I find less dates and more walnuts in the package. But that's OK; I just get back in bed with my bon-bons.

RECOVERY DAY 1.
ONE WALNUT FOR EACH DATE... ORIGINALLY.
IN BED WITH MY BON-BON[S].

No shaking going on here; I'm just glad I can drag my bon-bon around the house.

  1. When we were in Spanish class in Sevilla, Bill would take chocolates to give out at class... our instructor always thanked him for the "bom-bones".... first time I'd heard it said that way. Rocio was so funny... her eyes would light up and she'd have a big smile... and pretend to hide her candies from everyone else. I happen to agree with San G.... the dates would be delicious, but no walnuts please. Sounds like you're recovering just fine... so good!

Yesterday, I received a gift of a box of chocolates. I now have enough, possibly, to share.

  2. Hope you are enjoying the bombones as much as I enjoyed the video. I never cared for the song when I heard it, but the visuals do make it nice!

I never much appreciated Ricky Martin's raw talent until I watched him perform on MTV unplugged.

  4. Is your pref for milk or dark choc? I've never been a choco-holic (or of sweets generally) but given the choice, for me it's gotta be dark - best with an undertaste of bitter. Yes?

I love both but am not a fan of that bitter undertaste. Jerry loves that.

  7. Was the procedure just so you could have an excuse to enjoy bon bons in bed? On second thought, that is a silly question because why do you need an excuse? I would remove the walnuts from the dates too. Pecans, on the other hand, would be removed and savored separately.

I love all kinds of nuts. Jerry hates walnuts, pecans, and others with that kind of dry/mealy texture. I never need an excuse to eat bonbons, but I wouldn't normally eat them in bed. So, yes, the surgery was simply for that purpose.

I was expecting to have no appetite for at least a couple of days. But that didn't happen. Chocolate therapy!

  9. With all that special attention and care, should we expect a slightly longer recovery period???

Jerry is being so saintly and I'm feeling really guilty. So, no, I think I'll recover quickly (and he'll then lecture me that I'm doing too much).

Dates and walnuts are perfect together (unless you ask Jerry). And, trust me, I won't shake at all!

  13. Keep things moving!!! I tried very hard to do that after my hysterectomy (prune juice, barf!) but got stopped up anyway. Nothing like an enema at the ER to wreck your day! I'm sure you'll do fine with all those goodies!!

I hate prune juice, but I told Jerry to get some anyway. Fortunately, the chocolate and dates worked before he did so. SO pleased!

Does San Geraldo have a twin brother who's single and straight? No? Any bon bons left? xo

You'd be surprised (well, no you wouldn't) how many times San Geraldo has been asked the question about any brothers. Sorry, no. But plenty of bonbons.
