A New Attitude?

Yesterday, I walked more than 13km (more than 8 miles) in less than 2 hours. And that included stopping for pictures along the way... and to buy a bottle of water.

(Click any image to see how big a walk it was.)

CASTLE SOHAIL, FUENGIROLA.
NEARLY 13KM FROM HOME.

I began my walk around 4:30, after lunch and our first huge servings of tarta de cuajada (see the previous post). Later that night, after dinner, we had even huger servings of tarta de cuajada. I don't think 13km was quite enough.

San Geraldo asked Elena, "How many days will the tarta still be OK to eat?"

Elena responded, "It doesn't matter. You'll have finished it long before."

Do-Rag
While on my long walk in the spectacular sunshine, I realised I hadn't put on any sunscreen. Normally, I apply it every day before I head out — especially to the top of my shiny head, which until recent years didn't offer the sun such a vast target.

I wasn't wearing a hat since I'm not a huge fan. So, after walking for some time, I took off my tank top (singlet) and wrapped it around my head sort of like a "do-rag." I had a feeling it wouldn't be a great look for me. I was correct. In my case, it should probably be called a Don't-Rag. But I kept it on. In the past, I would have been much too self-conscious. So glad I'm over that.

San Geraldo sets a powerful example.

THIS MORNING WITH SAN GERALDO AND HIS "FLY-RAG."
(IT MUST HAVE WORKED. I DIDN'T SEE A SINGLE ONE.)

Ooo Ooo Ooo Ooo... Ooo!

Summer has arrived! 36C yesterday. I love Patti LaBelle, although I heard she was recently arrested for punching Aretha Franklin!

  2. Jim is looking for a head cover too since baseball caps have gone the way of the do-do bird, maybe a "Don't-rag" might be a good choice.

The music was our staple for our aerobics classes in the 80's ~~ now lift those legs ~~ I mean you!!!

  4. Your rate of walking is only a little slower than my running! Of course your legs are probably twice as long mine - that's what I am telling myself, anyway. Love the "don't rag". A way better look than the shoulder pads in the music video. :-)

I do have very long legs and I do walk very fast. The idea of a Don't Rag is growing on me. How about in combination with the shoulder pads?

  5. I don't like hats either but I decided to buy one in Switzerland, but my head proved too big for their hats. Go figure!

Jerry has the same problem with hats. One size fits all doesn't include him. I bought him a crown a few years ago. The biggest I could find. It fit him perfectly. I put it on and it slipped right over my head and down to my shoulders.

  6. Sounds an awfully long way to walk in the heat for just a bottle of water. Have you tried a tap? (Or faucet, as I believe 'you lot' like to call it.)

I'm a fan of hats - or, rather, caps - as they cover up embarrassing exposures of naked skin in the pate area, something which it seems you are not too fussed about yourself.

And I picked up the bottle of water at about 3km. I could have stopped.

Honestly, I at first didn't like hats because I didn't think they suited me. Then it was because I thought, with my balding pate, people would be either disappointed when I removed the hat or they would assume I was trying to hide the fact that I was balding. Now that I've embraced my baldness, maybe my entire attitude will change.

  7. You may think your fashion statement isn't "you".... but believe me, you look better than the guy I saw in Costa Rica... walking with his toddler along the beach... she had on a swimsuit... he had her tiny pink shorts plopped down on his head using them as a hat.

It's starting to grow on me. I'll have to get a much bigger earring and a real do-rag.

  9. I think you pull off the do-rag quite well! A new trend maybe?

Excellent. But it was gone by the time I got home, so I'll have to do that walk all over again.

  12. Don't you think it is great to finally be at an age where you don't give a rats behind what other people think? A scalded head for the sake of fashion would have been "stupido" :)

And to think I once wanted to crawl under a rock because, after an hour walking in Washington D.C., I discovered my solid-colored T-shirt was on inside out. that was 30 years ago!
