Cádiz: Feeding Time

During our Sunday in Cádiz, we stopped for 'treats' once or twice (three times if you count the ice cream).

Having met Elena and her mother at 9 a.m., I hadn't had time for my two cups of cafe con leche. So, by noon, I was in need of coffee and my mid-day snack.

Our first stop was at the Parador (these are high-end state-run hotels throughout Spain). The olives that arrived with out drinks were out of this world. Unfortunately, unlike the rest of the group who ordered beer, I had coffee. Olives and coffee? Not so good together. Then came a pork dish that was out of this world. We also had an excellent potato salad before moving on.

EXCEPTIONAL OLIVES!
(EXCEPT WITH CAFE CON LECHE.)
CHICHARRONES DE CHICLANA? (EXCEPT I THINK I'VE GOT THIS WRONG!)
(ELENA WILL CORRECT ME AND I'LL FIX THIS.)
PICOS (IT MEANS "BEAKS"). AS COMMON AS BAR PRETZELS.
LIKE LITTLE BREADSTICKS (ONLY BETTER).

After walking some more, we stopped for lunch at the beach.

GOLI, FINDING SOME SHADE.
PLAYING PARCHÍS ON THE BEACH BELOW. (PARCHEESI IN THE USA.)
TABLE GAMES ARE A COMMON SIGHT ON CÁDIZ BEACHES.
SOME SUGGESTIONS... WE HAD THAT SPECIFIC SQUID. (SEE NEXT PHOTO.)

TORTILLITAS DE CAMARONES.
DELICIOUS PIMIENTOS.
THE VERY TALENTED CARMEN WITH A PEPPER.
SARDINES! WITH TAILS, HEADS, AND EYES.
I DIDN'T TOUCH THEM (BUT, THANKS JUST THE SAME).

First Carmen and then Elena demonstrate the proper (or improper) way to eat a pepper.

It was a great day. But, I'm grateful there were no oysters!

  2. I am ok with tails on fried fish but not keen when the head comes on it at the same time. I don't like to stare down my food. The rest looks tasty though!

I also would not have touched the sardine.

I have learned to appreciate different things (like GOOD anchovies) since moving to Spain. But sardines still don't do it for me.

  4. I make a point of not eating anything that can look back at me, but much of this looks delicious.

I'm pretty much the same. Except for the sardines, I loved it all.

  5. No on the sardines... I won't suck the heads of crawfish either. Make of that what you will, lol.
Everything else looks delicious and I envy you greatly.

  6. It all looks wonderful and I would have eaten the sardines except for the heads. Olives go better by far with beer!

Olives are great with beer. Not so great (well... AWFUL) with coffee.

  8. Don't think I've ever had more than one olive at a time, being only a single one on the end of a cocktail stick. Now I've got the urge to go out and buy a jar of the pickled things. (Hope it doesn't give one the 'runs', as I thought they might do.)

The Runs?!? It's never happened to me (from olives). I actually started researching as a result of your comment and could find no legitimate info (i.e., scientific, medical) that credited olives with causing the runs. And I can't believe I'm having this conversation!
