Three Cheers And Dammit

My sister, Dale, died at the age of 29. So, three years later, when I made it to the age of 30, I heaved a  huge sigh of relief and said to myself, "I'm still here."

ALL-ABOUT-ME DAY 2015.
AT HOME ON THE BEACH IN LOS BOLICHES, FUENGIROLA, MÁLAGA.

My father died five years after my sister. He was only 60. I may have outlasted Dale but I often wondered if I'd outlast my father. I'd lecture myself about positive thinking and the self-fulfilling prophesy. I'd win some battles but, admittedly, I never won the war.

Well, I got through all of last year, today is my 61st birthday, and I'm here!

Lord knows at least I was there...

36 years old was my goal because my father died at that age. I have almost doubled that, another 7 years to go, fingers crossed.

You have beautiful teeth! There ~~ I said it!

Isn't it awful what we do to ourselves? Maybe one of these days we'll truly be able to live in the moment and not worry about the things we have absolutely no control over. As for teeth... Thank you for that. I've spent most of my life hating my teeth.

OK, Mysterious Cousin (aka Kenosha Kid), I THINK I know who you are (I've read the old blogs... a creative independent-minded, non-traditional thinker who writes... that rules out quite a few people). But please let me know for sure. (So I can slap you on the head and tell you you're not really all that far behind!)

  17. If you saw my comment on your previous post, Mitch, you'll have seen that I managed to get my wishes in on the actual day. But if you didn't, and even though it's now one day later, it's no hardship at all to wish you all the very best again, though for yesterday.
Now do be careful at your advanced age. At the rate you're going you'll soon catch up with me - but I'll try my darnedest to keep ahead (currently by nearly 8 years).

I have to say, the blue of that towel, against the colors of your skin and beard, with the dark spots of the sunglasses -- it's really a remarkably beautiful photograph, just in and of itself (even if we didn't know the great guy whose face it is).

Thanks so much. I was surprised by how much I loved the photo (I hate most photos of me). A beach selfie with my smartphone. Staring directly into the sun, so I had no idea what was on the screen. No Photoshop. Just cropped and placed. I do love that blue. I'm always looking for shirts in that color.
