The Vampire's Diary

It's the season for my seasonal allergies to be at their worst. I know I'm allergic to leaf molds and, although living here on the Mediterranean Sea is not like living on the Long Island Sound in Connecticut (we're not surrounded by forests), we still have a variety of deciduous trees, rotting leaves, and seasonal plants. Sometimes, my allergies get so bad that I think I've got a cold or a virus or the flu. I've spent most of the last two days in bed. Miserable. Whiney.

But just after sunset both days most of my symptoms have become tolerable and I've been ready to spread my wings.

Is it a coincidence that San Geraldo just hung some fresh garlic in the kitchen?

Views from a recent daytime walk on the beach. Before I went all vampire.

I'LL MISS THE LIGHT.
SOME SHADY FISHERMEN.
NO FANS OF "TWILIGHT" HERE.
WAITING FOR THE VAMPIRE SQUIDS OF HELL
(YES, THEY REALLY EXIST... JUST NOT HERE).

To believe that the tide's going to turn

  1. Great photos!
Today I visited my Natural Therapist who did her magic, acupuncture, cupping and energy work) to treat my sinus condition which is chronic but manageable. She has helped a lot. Too bad you are not nearer, she could help you I am sure.
Love that pic of those folks behind the buildings out of the COLD WIND!!
    Fell better soon.

  2. I hope some good fresh wind clears out all the allergens. What a great video! In the meantime, watch out for the garlic. ;-)

Good fresh wind clears out the old and brings in the new! But it will soon pass.

Remember, it's not much of a winter here; there's always something blooming. But I react the most extremely to leaf molds and changes in barometric pressure. I always have. It might be peaking today and all will be well soon!

  6. We got a rental car to drive from Puerto Vallarta up here to Lo de Marcus... they had cleaned the interior with something very "aromatic" and I thought I'd croak before we got to our destination. Rode with the windows down the whole way. Guess I'm about over it now... but I sure can be sympathetic with your problem.

When we moved to Southern California in '93, we started having our car washed at a local place. One of the fragrance options was "nucar." We had no idea what kind of flower or spice it was, so chose cinnamon instead. The lightbulb went on at the same time for both of us.

So sorry to read this, but you know misery loves company. Just hop on a plane and we can be miserable together on the Costa del Sol. In our case, we might want to start calling it the Costa del Obscuro. However, I can proudly report that I feel like crap in the evenings now, too. Hope you recover quickly.

I've had problems (allergies and/or barometric pressure) wherever I've lived, even in the the desert of Palm Springs. I should just shut up and get on with it.

Thanks so much for visiting. Your drawing (and addressing) was an inspiration. I love those kinds of story telling illustrations. Yours was perfect! (Oh, and thanks, too on behalf of the cats.)
