Is It Safe?

"IS IT SAFE?"
"Yes, it's safe; it's very safe.
It's so safe you wouldn't believe it."
(From the 1976 suspense thriller "Marathon Man.")

Dudo today has been repeatedly asking the question, "Is it safe?" Ever since the contractors hoisted the scaffold early this morning.

Moose found it, if not fascinating, at least somewhat interesting. Dudo did not.

EARLIER TODAY: "IS IT SAFE?" I SAID, "YES, IT'S SAFE."
IT DIDN'T MATTER. HE WENT BACK BEHIND THE PIANO.

The workers are long gone and won't return until after Three Kings Day (Ephiphany).

It's Monday evening. The terrace door is open. Moose is outside. But Dudo is on my lap.

Dudo has been on my lap for a very, very, very long time.

"IS IT SAFE?" "YES! IT'S SAFE!"
"I DON'T BELIEVE YOU."

I'm hungry. And I've really gotta pee!

  1. Poor Dudo! Good that he has a nice green-blanket covered lap for protection and comfort.Too bad it will be a WET blanket covered lap if he doesn't give you a break. It might not be safe at all!

During summer I was always wearing shorts, so would put a towel on my lap for him to sit on. Now, unless he's desperate, he waits for me to get a towel. Even my heavy jeans or fuzzy pajama pants won't do.

I always make fun of Jerry because he regularly gives up his siesta because the cats have taken over the bed. I'm exactly the same.

  3. Poor Dudo! He has that look as if to say, "And I thought this was going to be a good home!"
Funny he doesn't follow behind Moose when the coast is clear.

I've tried to convince him to follow Moose's lead, but he reminds me who the smart one is in that duo (and it's not Moose).

  4. I'm with Dudo!

Now, we have nights here at Casa Bob y Carlos when I ask Carlos to get something for me and he sarcastically asks why I can't get it myself.

"Because Tuxedo's asleep," I say, pointing to a napping cat.

Cat's rule, and you're allowed to get up only when Dudo says you can get up.

Fortunately, Jerry and I are exactly the same in this regard. So we can't judge.

  6. Bob's comment reminds me of a family joke from my childhood. When Black Magic (our cat) was sitting on either of my parents' lap and they were asked to do something the response was always, "I can't. I have this cat."

  7. spouse and I do that in our house too; "but I don't wanna disturb her" is the common refrain. but when ya gotta pee, all bets are off!

I can't believe how I stress my bladder some days, just so Dudo isn't disturbed.

  8. I really miss my cat... she provided me with any excuse I needed... but Dudo and Moose make me think of how much cats have been a part of my life and what I do miss now. I sure can relate to that "Is it safe?" look... not that they really trust your answer....

Dudo is definitely getting better about the construction (mostly), but he does a pretty quick dash to the kitchen lately.

  9. Maybe you should just tell Dudo, "Try ACTING, dear boy!"

  10. I write this with a puppy on my lap who has decided that the only place to really get a good morning/afternoon/evenings' rest is on my lap. It has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with comfort. Dudo is just using your guilt.... now the question is what do you have to be guilty about?

I didn't mention (admit) that when Dudo is NOT afraid of contractors and scaffolding, he usually keeps me captive at my desk (like your dog, morning/afternoon/evening). I'm a push-over.
