We're Getting Fixed

It seems just about everything is getting fixed around here. The Paseo (the boulevard that runs between our apartment and the beach has been under renovation for months. Fortunately, the paving in our neighborhood was completed before we moved in three years ago. Work is continuing west of us to the end and it will clearly be completed in time for summer season. The invasive ficus trees (the roots swallow up everything) are being removed all along the Paseo (an ongoing project) and replaced with delicately flowered trees. Note: I was told by a gardener on the Paseo that these are Tamarindos (Tamarind trees). If anyone knows what this really is, please let me know.

(CLICK TO MAKE IT BLOOMIN' LARGE.)

Our train station, Los Boliches, has been closed for five months and it looks close to completion, right on schedule. All new and shiny with the important addition of an elevator.

The tile has been laid (but not grouted) on most of our side terrace. Painting is almost done in our laundry/utility room.

We've eaten all the Jamaican Black Cake and all the Banana Bread. San Geraldo is back to eating healthy.

And I'm out of chocolate.

... AND WEST.
NOT EVERYTHING IN TOWN HAS GOTTEN A NEW FACE.
THIS WAS, I THINK, A BAR CALLED "FAG ASH LIL'S" (A FAG, IN THIS CASE, IS A CIGARETTE).
SO THE FIRE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NO SURPRISE.

They've planted Tamarinds that bloom in pink or in white. Beautiful.

  2. Plenty going on in your neighbourhood! Think of how great it will look very soon.
Mitch, you would have died and gone to heaven today here, well in Halifax,.....we had these DELICIOUS Brownie/Meringue/Baileys-filled custard cup cakes!! So decadent, yet SO GOOD! Had to share.

Had to share? If you really "had to share," there'd be a care package on its way!

  3. This area is going to look incredible when finished. I hope this doesn't prompt your landlord to raise your rent.

They really are taking exceptional care of the town, but we've got a great arrangement and expect all to continue to be well for us here.

  4. Well now didn't I just give a sigh of relief when I read the post after being rather disconcerted by the headline.

Well, it wouldn't really be any great loss.

  5. Our tamarind tree has the most beautiful orchid-like flowers that the hummingbirds and butterflies adore. I couldn't tell from the photo if those were leaves or blossoms on your tree. Regardless, it doesn't look quite the same as ours. Your work crew seems to be making great progress. Hope that paseo construction is not blocking your access to more chocolate!

Once I read your comment about the orchid-like flowers, I looked up tamarind flowers. I have no idea what these actually are! One of the workers (who I thought was an actual gardener) on the paseo told me "tamarindo" when I asked, but these flowers look nothing like yours or what I found online.

  7. Well, after our sessions at the animal clinic, getting fixed takes on a whole different meaning.... However... I just don't like Tamarind... would prefer getting fixed instead of suffering that taste.... guess it's all in one's own perspective....

It turns out, thanks to Wilma, that these aren't actually tamarind trees. But I have no idea what they are!

  8. Funny how spring makes us all want to tidy our nests a bit.

Our "nest" is a complete mess, but we can already see how it will transformed.

I have it down pat (pretty much) now. I'm pretty certain the sea is usually on the side where the water is.

The "Reno Bug"? That sounds awful.
