Things, Like A Walk In The Park

While Judyshannonstreetwhat was still here in May, we took a ride to Benalmádena. It's the city just east of us and comprises Benalmádena Pueblo (where I saw Paula perform with the marching band during Corpus Christi, click here), Arroyo de la Miel (a bit lower down the mountain from the pueblo), and Benalmádena Costa (along the coast).

We were meeting our friend Kristina for a walk in Paloma Park (still further down the hill from Arroyo de la Miel) and then planned to continue down to the beach where we'd have lunch. All went as planned, the company was great, and the weather was glorious.

LOOKING BACK AT THE TRAIN STATION IN ARROYO DE LA MIEL.
HEADING DOWNHILL.
AND MY MOTHER ALWAYS SAID, "COTTON DOESN'T GROW ON TREES!"
OH, WAIT. I DON'T THINK SHE SAID COTTON.
NOW, WHAT WAS IT?
EACH FLOWER LOOKS LIKE A SMALL BELL.
THE EAST ENTRANCE TO PALOMA PARK.
ONE OF A FEW BRONZE HEADS NEAR THE NORTH ENTRANCE.
FROM THIS ANGLE, IT LOOKS LIKE THE TREE IN THE PREVIOUS SHOT.

KRISTINA BROUGHT FOOD FOR THE WILDLIFE.
WE WERE SURPRISED WHEN THIS LESSER EGRET JOINED IN.
BUT HE JUST WAITED FOR THE LITTLE FISH TO SURFACE.
HE'D THEN PICK THEM OFF ONE AT A TIME.
MORE THAN 2,000 CACTI FROM MORE THAN 450 SPECIES.
KRISTINA'S DOG, ELLIOT, LOVING THE GRASS.

Oddly, I was singing this song to San Geraldo just the other night... (He thought it was odd, too — the song, not the fact that I was singing; he's used to that).

Southern Spain does get a lot of sunshine. One of the reasons we picked it. And thanks!

The heads are by sculptor, Jose Seguiri, of Málaga. I think they were installed in 2011 (the park opened in the '90s).

It's a Bobby Darin song from 1962. And it WAS a gorgeous day for a walk in the park, all around town, and by the beach!

I want one of those bronze heads for the terrace. But we'd have to sidle by it or climb over it.

  7. Did you check out Nancy's hairdo? Hell, she'd put Dolly to shame... at least in that category! But I loved hearing Dean and Nancy singing the song... And, of course your photos....

I couldn't stop looking at Nancy's do. A lot of women gave up their hair for that thing!

Elliot was in heaven rolling around the grass. I found it odd that he didn't show any interest in the birds Kristina was feeding (chickens, roosters, pigeons). She told me Elliot didn't care about them; he just wanted the bread.

  10. So, is the head supposed to be lying on its side? And can one crawl inside it? Childish minds want to know!

Yes, the head is supposed to be on its side. And there don't seem to be any restrictions (climbing, crawling, etc.). But I would imagine it gets kind of hot inside.

  11. Eliot is a keeper; we both support the pastime rolling down grass hills.

Elliot was so happy at the park. But the walk home uphill in the heat was not appreciated. He was very chipper at first. Then the pace slowed. Then he sat down for a while. He also managed to find the shade of buildings the entire hike. A smart boy.
