We Had To Eat

Of course, we ate while we were in the United States. In New York, there were the diners, a great Italian restaurant, a couple of chic restaurants (too dark for good food photos, but trust me). In South Dakota, there were feasts with family and traditional American breakfasts out. In Minnesota, exceptional meals around Saint Paul. And in Seattle, cool meals in trendy places. We ate a lot more than is pictured here.

THE NEW YORK EGG CREAM.
MILK, SELTZER, CHOCOLATE SYRUP (NO EGG).

NEW YORK: PARKVIEW DINER, ROCCO'S TACOS, CASA BELLA.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.

That's the American way. My mother used to take home left overs and have two more meals. I would prefer portions half the size (and half the price)!

  3. YUMMY! Now I see what 'fuel' you used during your USA visit......important not to run out of 'gas'!!
That NY Egg Cream looks interesting...like a thin smoothie?

The egg cream is simply chocolate milk with fizz. I used to love it more than anything when I was a kid. This time it just tasted to me like chocolate milk with fizz!

Lots of really good meals. The breakfasts in Seattle were exceptional and unusual. I think I'll revert to my memories of egg creams.

  6. It all looks wonderfully delicious, although I would have to push those green peas to the side. The Seattle collage is very tempting! I wish we had more opportunity to eat out here, but that is the price we pay for living in such a remote place.

Those green peas were on Jerry's open-faced turkey "sandwich." I'm not a huge fan of green peas, but would have simply mixed them with the mashed potatoes and enjoyed them that way. I would not, however, have piled everything together.

  7. I think I will stick with my small bowl of muesli moistened with fresh spring water. Thank you.

To be honest, muesli sounds pretty good right now. I think I OD'd on overindulgence.

  9. I don't understand that Egg Cream thing. Even with chocolate in it, it doesn't sound good.

    Hugs and kisses.

Hugely popular in NY delis for years. If you grew up with it, I think you would have loved it. It's got chocolate!!!

  12. I think I'd go for everything except that egg cream... I'll eat just about anything, but that just didn't appeal to me. Not that I wouldn't try it..... ;0

Worth a try but I wonder if you have to have it in childhood to really appreciate it.
