It's Greek To Me

There's a local Greek restaurant called Santorini that we had never tried before. It's well-rated, so we decided to check it out the other night with Tynan and Elena.

I told San Geraldo and Tynan that it was a 5-minute walk from our apartment. It was 8 minutes. And those whiners had the nerve to complain.

So sue me.

Anyway, they didn't complain once we were there. Friendly and excellent service. Delicious and authentic dishes. And very affordable prices. The menu includes Spanish dishes, as well. But we stuck with what we were there for and went totally Greek. (Oh, stop it.)

(Click the images and enlarge the delicious.)

DOLMADES — STUFFED GRAPE LEAVES.
TZATZIKI.
(YOGURT, LEMON JUICE, OLIVE OIL, PEPPER DILL, CUCUMBER.)
KEBAB WITH TZATZIKI AND RICE (AND SALAD).

A nearby foursome (I swear it wasn't us) followed their meal with a flaming drink called Queimada. The drink originates in Galicia (northwestern Spain). (Learn about it here.)

Elena explained the drink to us. She's from Northern Spain, although quite a long distance from Galicia. But she's very smart. And she has quite a bit of experience with alcoholic beverages.

COME ON BABY,  LIGHT MY FIRE.
(NO FLOWERS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS DRINK.)

  1. That looks so good! I wish we had a decent Greek restaurant near us. We can always go to Montreal but it would be nice to have one closer.

    Miss you both!

This one is inexpensive. I haven't been to Old Town since 1986! We used to bike there via Rock Creek Park from our house in Georgetown. Great memories.

  4. Yum - I can't wait to go to Greece in June, both hubby and I love Greek food. The best restaurant in town here is Greek but quite expensive. We splurge a couple times a year :)

We were surprised at how inexpensive Santorini's was. We have some very good surprises like that around town.

It has surprised us at the variety and quality (and affordability) of the restaurants. There are expensive ones all around us, but they're not necessary!

  7. Dolmades are one of our favourite Greek appetizers. I know where we are going this weekend....the Blue Olive in Halifax!!
Sounds and looks like a fun night out dining, Mitch. Can't go wrong with Greek food.

Jerry used to make dolmades for parties we hosted. We weren't disappointed with Santorini's... They were perfect.

I didn't even have to make an effort!

There's also an incredible Greek restaurant near where my mother lived. But the prices are absurd. Our last dinner for four there five years ago cost $360. This one cost about $45!

We were too far away to hear, but it looked like the waiter was doing something.

  10. Have been away and offline for a couple of days, so am only now resurfacing in an altered reality. Loved your Moose post. Have never been happier to live in Belize and to be without a TV. I can't imagine the next 4+ years in the US; it is a horrifying scenario.
    The Greek food looks wonderful.

Life without American news channels can definitely be a boon. Unfortunately, I read online news every day. I haven't been able to stomach more than a minute of it this week. Greek food would help!
