Chef Show-Off

We often go downstairs for our morning coffee at Cafe BarBoru by the Sea. Chef Robbie loves to bake and usually has something special to get us through these cold winter days.
I know. I know. I should just shut up. But our blood has thinned after years of living in the desert and in Mediterranean climates. We did, however, have San Geraldo's cyclonic winds Tuesday night. We even had to close a window that was open on the terrace! Then again, we were out all day today in just T-shirts (well, pants, too).
But back to Chef Robbie and his baked goods.

As long as Robbie keeps up with the printed menu, he's free to create anything that strikes his fancy. We're lucky his fancy is always being struck.

(Click the images and your mouth will water.)

MINCE PIES AND CREME ANGLAIS. (FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT KNOW,
MINCEMEAT IS A MIXTURE OF DRIED FRUIT AND SPICES.)
RASPBERRY CHEESECAKE.
A BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR CHEF ROBBIE'S FRIEND.
(THE PURSE IS NOT MY STYLE, BUT — INSIDE —  CHOCOLATE!!!)

If you ask me, Robbie is just showing off. I made TEA!

A blend of teas. From scratch. I filled the bag myself. Do you have any idea how much work that is?!

FROM LEFT: MANZANILLA (CHAMOMILE); VAINILLA Y ANÍS (VANILLA AND ANISE); I PUT IT IN THE BAG; I PULLED THE DRAWSTRING. AND I USED THE ELECTRIC KETTLE, NOT THE MICROWAVE.

Everything stops for tea.

I think Robbie was very impressed with my tea (or maybe he wasn't). But those mince pies and creme Anglaise were exceptional.

  2. One of Chef Robbie's desserts paired with your mug of tea would just be the coziest little set up I can think of...shut inside away from the cyclonic winds, of course. :)

The winds were so strong yesterday afternoon, I had to fight to get the door open to the parking lot. Seriously. Sailboats are out in force today. I just sat down for another cup of tea.

The raspberry cheesecake really was out of this world. We had it after a full breakfast with a second cup of coffee!

I figured you'd appreciate that. I also figured you'd have a laugh at the idea of us just being in T-shirts.

  8. If we had a Cafe BarBoru by the Sea and a Chef Robbie in Smallville, Carlos would have set a tent up inside and moved there.
That purse is fabulous; what a creative chef!

It is so dangerous. Jerry's been baking, too. It's a wonder I don't weigh 400 pounds.

  9. Was Chef Robbie a deciding factor in choosing your current location? That would sure influence me!

We have simply lucked out. There was a very expensive restaurant there when we moved in; it was always empty. That closed shortly after and was replaced by a very disappointing and sleazy feeling place. Then, last year, came BarBoru. I hope they're successful.

Robbie will be relieved to know that. Actually, he DID call it a handbag. My North American came out when I said purse.

Ha! Well, we're experiencing our coldest day since we arrive in Fuengirola four years ago. HOWEVER, I won't even bother telling you the temperature. You'd either laugh or really want to smack me.

I must admit, that raspberry cheesecake was out of this world. Today Robbie made bizchoco borracho, a Spanish dessert (I think from north of Madrid) that translates to drunken cake/drunken sponge. Unbelievable!
