Vikings, Kake, And Other Good Things

Jerry's cousin (second-cousin) Inger was recently in Southern Spain from Norway with two good friends, Geir Henning and Carl Johann, who have a new place less than an hour from us. They drove over for lunch one day (we went to Meson Salvador) and then invited us to their home a couple of days later (they and Inger cooked). We adore Inger and now I understand why she adores Geir Henning and Carl Johann.

BAKED FOR US BY INGER. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT'S CALLED. IT'S SOME KIND OF KAKE.
(NOW, BEHAVE YOURSELF! THAT MEANS CAKE!!!) ALL I KNOW IS IT'S NOT KRUMKAKE, WHICH IT SOMEWHAT RESEMBLES.
NOTE: INGER LET ME KNOW SHE CALLS THEM KRUMMER.
HOT PADS AND DISH CLOTH HAND-MADE BY INGER.
AT THE GUYS' HOME: SAN GERALDO'S VIKING-SIZE FEET IN A BORROWED PAIR OF INDOOR SANDALS.
A DELICIOUS LUNCH.
CARL JOHANN'S NYDELIG (WHICH I SURE HOPE MEANS DELICIOUS IN NORWEGIAN) FLAN.
(HE HAD NEVER USED CANNED WHIPPED CREAM BEFORE!)

The krumkaker (krummer?) were gone in one day. Jerry ate the crumbs with a spoon!

That krummer looks like it would go perfectly with tea/coffee.

The "krummer" didn't last long enough for coffee or tea to be made. They are so good!

  6. At first pass I thought your title was "Vikings, KALE, and ..."! Kale is OK, but kake looks way better. ;-)

  10. Those Norwegian treats look wonderful! Here in Minnesota, you only see them at Christmas. I guess we're getting stodgy!

Thanks so much for the link. Jerry has tried to order online, but the duties to shop in US and ship to Spain cost more than the shoes! It's the pits. He had a couple of pairs of shoes delivered to my mother's before a visit one time because he couldn't even find his size in retail stores we checked in New York. I'm sure they're there, but it's a hunt.

It's one of the many reasons I walk and exercise so much. But I spent the first 30 years of my life looking undernourished no matter what I ate.

Both of Jerry's mother's parents went to the States from Norway in the 1920s, so he's got lots of recent family connections. We'll meet more when we go for a visit in May.
