Safe Sects / Sectas Seguras

ONE OF THE plazas along the Paseo in our neighborhood (Los Boliches) is undergoing a major renovation. Nearby is a little privately owned chapel to the Virgin of Fátima. There's a small statue of the virgin alongside it. The dust and construction debris is nasty, so someone has protected the virgin. She appears (to me at least) to be encased in a giant condom. "Safe sects?" I wondered.

"¿Safe sects?" me preguntaba.

This makes perfect sense.
I wrote about this little chapel four years ago. The photo is below. What I said at the time was, I wonder what she did last night. Click here for the original post.

I had so many inappropriate thoughts, but I kept it simple.

  2. The shrine appears to be evolving over the years.

I've been impressed with the improvements all over town in our 4-1/2 years here. The plaza in front of the chapel is going to be stunning. Plaza behind was redone last year. You're right about the shrine "evolving." For better and worse, plenty of changes. The fenced garden is beautiful. The adornments on the chapel are a bit kitschy (they don't seem to know when to stop) but at least it's being taken care of.

  3. I really like this last photo, Mitch. Such a juxtaposition on the choices these two women have made.

Such a nice way to describe it. I could be really irreverent (well, even MORE irreverent) but I'll behave myself.

I DID wonder if THAT was what was meant by immaculate conception, but that didn't make any sense.

I thought I was so very clever, but I just now Googled "safe sects" (THAT sounds kinky) and it's amazing what I found. Not an original thought in my head apparently!

It is a sweet little place and a convenient stop on the way home from the bars.

I know! I had the same confusion. Trying to make sense out of safe sex and immaculate conception.
