Ladacrowfut Tomebrider

WHEN WE ARRIVED for dinner at the very busy Restaurante Primavera Friday night, we received the usual warm welcome from the staff. Our friend May was working on the terrace, but we went inside into air-conditioned comfort. May followed to give us a quick hug. Her long hair was worked into a French braid. San Geraldo commented on how much he liked it and she said in English, "Yes. Like Ladacrowfut Tomebrider."

"Like what?" I asked.

"Ladacrowft?" she repeated very hesitantly, "Tomebrider?"

And we got it. "Oh! Lara Croft Tomb Raider!"

May's English is excellent, so she blushed at her mispronunciation. But I reminded her of the story I had told her about Rode Estigwar/Rod Stewart (click here for that post) and she felt much better.

MONTHS AGO. MAY HAD JUST PUT ON HER SUNGLASSES... TO KEEP HER HAIR IN PLACE!
HACE MESES. MAY SE PUSO LAS GAFAS DE SOL ... PARA MANTENER EL PELO EN SU SITIO.
WEEKS LATER. I THINK THIS IS MAY'S ONLY USE FOR SUNGLASSES.
SEMANAS DESPUÉS. PIENSO QUE ESTO ES SU ÚNICO USO PARA LAS GAFAS DEL SOL.
NO PHOTO OF MAY WITH THE BRAID, SO LADACROWFUT WILL HAVE TO DO.
NINGUNA FOTO DE MAY CON LA TRENZA, ASÍ QUE LADACROWFUT TENDRA QUE HACER.

Jerry had Penne con Pluma Iberica (penne pasta, Iberian pork, artichoke, boletus mushroom, garlic). And I had Ensalada Medina (slow-cooked chicken, cous cous, pecans, orange, mix of lettuce, and a yogurt and tangerine vinaigrette). Needless to say, delicious!

Yes it does. But her English is so good that she's embarrassed when she gets something so wrong. I wish my Spanish were as good as her English.

It's so much fun to hear these. You can only imagine what English speakers do to the simplest Spanish names!

  8. Not as funny, but a French woman once told us that her favorite actor was Pierce Broze-mahn.
