I HAVEN'T TALKED about Slushee for a while. You remember her, don't you? She's our friend, Ann, who worked at a café on the Paseo and was so-named for her ever-changing hair colors that sometimes resembled what you might get from a Slushee machine. (Click here to meet her hair.)

The reason I haven't mentioned Slushee is because I think she's in a Witness Protection program.

The former Slushee has changed her look just a little. And she's now taking care of things at a wonderful café/restaurant on one of the charming streets that parallel the Paseo here in Los Boliches.

Also, whether she likes it or not, Slushee must now be called Harold. The name derives from the strong glue, "Araldite." John, the owner of the new restaurant, "Food for Thought," as well as the nearby "Bar Mundi" christened her for Araldite because he says, "Once you join up with her, you're stuck for life." (John pronounces "Harold" as "Arold.")

I don't want to blow Harold's cover. So, please, let's keep this between us.

  2. Harold can't really tell you, or she might have to kill you. You lived in DC, you know the behaviour.

Harold's response to this was to tell me she's not who I thought she was. So, never mind.

  6. Funny story! She reminds me of a friend I have. That street looks beautiful, and for once, I love the sight of everything on your plates. The salmon looks delish.

The salmon could not have been better. And even the fresh vegetables! As for Harold reminding you of a friend, I wouldn't be surprised to be told she'd been in witness protection before. She's that type, you know?

I hope the word gets out about Food for Thought. They deserve lots of business. And Harold deserves to get the business, too.

And right now it's a great option. They're busy early with Brits, which leaves it more quiet later for us locals! But that won't last long.

  12. I knew a couple where the wife changed her hair all kinds of colors. She dyed it "normal" when he ran for city office and changed it after he won

Well, Harold may not do Slushee colors anymore, but the color does appear to change from week to week. Two weeks ago, she was very blonde. This week, she's a honey brunette!

  13. I vote for the chicken curry, too! Of course, the salmon looks just as delicious, but for some reason that curry sounds like something I want to make soon.
