Casa Consistorial: Town Hall To Hotel

Another of the great 'before' photos on display in town stands in front of Hotel Casa Consistorial. The hotel opened just a couple of years ago after being constructed on the site of Fuengirola's original Casa Consistorial (Town Hall), which had stood on the plaza since 1868. The hotel was under construction when we moved here and I had no idea what had stood there before. It's about a 30-minute walk from home.

(Click the images for a closer look.)

TOWN HALL GOT A NEW FACADE IN 1959. HERE IT IS IN 1961.
AND NOW A 4-STAR HOTEL.
LOCAL POLICE, 1957.
THE NAME OF THE PLAZA IS LOS REYES CATÓLICOS (THE CATHOLIC KING & QUEEN).
A STATUE OF LOS REYES WAS INSTALLED AFTER THE HOTEL OPENED.
(I'M NEITHER A FAN OF LOS REYES NOR OF THE STATUE.)
JUST LEFT OF CASA CONSISTORIAL, A NEW ARTISAN ICE CREAM SHOP.
MAYBE THIS WILL GET SAN GERALDO TO TAKE THE WALK WITH ME.

  1. Great looking buildings they are/were!
Maybe the ice cream shop will 'convince' SG to go with you next time!! Good luck.

Oh, the ice cream shop will convince Jerry to take a taxi there!

  2. Okay, so Am I reading that right... The hotel is a fully-new construction building, modeled after the old Town Hall, not a renovation of the original building?

Yes the hotel is completely new. I was so surprised when I saw this old photo of the original building.

  3. I believe that I can see a similarity with the Catholic King and San Geraldo or do my eyes deceive me ;-) ???

Ferdinand II and Jerry are not related, I'm happy to say. But this statue, which apparently looks nothing like either king or queen, does look like Jerry.

I loved the new building even before I knew how closely they followed the old. And ARTISAN ice cream. I was near there again yesterday and still didn't succumb!

Grilled nectarines! That sounds delicious. I wonder how that would taste with fresh fig ice cream.

  7. I'm glad this building was restored instead of being demolished to make room for something new without soul.

It wasn't actually restored; I think it was beyond that. But the facade was reproduced, which is also nice.
