Disco Fever / Fiebre Disco

OUR FRIEND PEDRO is a bit jealous. He's seen the photos of Restaurante Primavera's "Men of the Parmesan" (click here) and he feels left out. So I decided to produce a music video. Pedro really knows how to grate his cheese.

Rose-Colored Glasses / Lentes De Color Rosa

WE'RE STILL FINDING berry juice from yesterday's explosion in the kitchen (previous post). Even in the cats' food dishes 2.5 meters (8 feet) away. (The cats simply ate around it.)

Interesting that I was looking at the world through rose-colored glasses yesterday. The day before, while on my walk, I had this random thought: 'I'm like yesterday's coffee. Cold and bitter.' Now where did that come from?

Drink Your Juice! / ¡Bebe Tu Zumo!

TUESDAY AFTERNOON, WHILE the cats were enjoying their treats, we heard a major crack and rumble from the kitchen. Dudo didn't come out of hiding for several hours. While we trIed to figure out what the noise had been, it happened again. The cabinets were coming off the wall. We quickly emptied them and stacked books underneath for support.

By Thursday, Santi (our brilliant friend, contractor, handyman, magician, and saint) had restored them to better than their original condition. No new cabinets (although we'd LOVE an entirely new kitchen).

So, Friday, I put the kitchen back together. While the cabinets were out, I scrubbed every surface.

We had two fresh juice blends, wonderful gifts that we had forgotten about. San Geraldo commented that they had probably fermented by now. Remember that comment.

After lunch I decided to empty the old items from the refrigerator before washing the dishes. I opened the first juice blend (dark berries) and it exploded. All over me and every square inch of the sparkling kitchen.

I cleaned it. Again.

I'm now showered and naked (my juice-covered clothes are in the wash), and I really need a drink. Nothing fruity.

Nada afrutado.

The First Child / El Primer Niño

WE SHIPPED BOXES of stuff from New York to Spain after my mother died in August 2016 and we've still got a lot to dig through. Yesterday, I re-found a box containing my sister Dale's baby book. My mother lost interest with the book after a while. And she didn't even bother starting a baby book for me (the sad middle child) or for The Kid Brother. I guess the novelty had worn off.  Well, there was also a matter of time management, I'm sure. Although I know I was the perfect child, she certainly had less time on her hands.

THE BOX WAS LABELED FOR SALE, "PINK BABY BOOK."

Smurf Sandwich / Tostada Pitufo

MOST MORNINGS, WE go across the street to the chiringuito for coffee on the beach. I use the word "mornings" loosely. We're usually up by 8:30 but we have breakfast at home and we sometimes don't get out for coffee until noon.

Thursdays, however, our housekeeper, Isabel, arrives at 10 and we like to be out of her way. The chiringuito doesn't open until 11, so we go to Mesón Salvador (for much better coffee).

We also treat ourselves to tostadas when we're there. We have our choice of large (viena) or small (pitufo, which is what a Smurf is called in Spain).

I have Serrano ham (a type of dry-cured ham from the Sierra Nevada Mountains) and cheese (with olive oil). Exquisite. San Geraldo opts for butter and jam.

OUR FRIEND LULU is back in town from her summer home in Finland and she brought us gifts from a very chic store called Finlayson. "Tom of Finland" cocktail napkins and, for the heat, pot holders.

Have Gone To Church / He Ido A La Iglesia

AS THE DUST settled Saturday evening from the horses on Plaza de La Constitución, a wedding party began to arrive at the Church of Our Lady of The Rosary. The plaza went from bridle to bridal in just a few minutes. Spanish style!

Today Bridle, Tomorrow Bridal / Hoy Brida, Mañana "Bridal"

SATURDAY WAS "FUENGIROLA A Caballo" (Fuengirola On Horseback), an equestrian event (the third annual) that took place in the center of town, primarily on two plazas within a few minutes of each other, Plaza de la Constitución and Plaza de Los Reyes Católicos.

Live music, dance performances, singing, and horses. I took it all in. More than 5 km (3 miles) roundtrip after a more than 6 km (3.7 miles) walk earlier in the day — without a sit-down. My hooves are tired.

Oh, the title:
There was a wedding (bridal) in the church on Plaza de la Constitución immediately following the equestrian (bridle) events.

Too Close To The Sun / Demasiado Cerca Del Sol

I HAVE ALWAYS been fascinated by the Greek myth of Daedalus and his son Icarus. Daedalus made wings of wax and feathers for himself and Icarus. He warned Icarus to not fly close to the sun or the sea. But Icarus, overcome by the joy of flying, flew too close to the sun causing the wings to melt. He fell into the sea and drowned.

My photo of the sun during Thursday's sunrise made me think of Icarus.

We Don't Have A Statue / No Tenemos Una Estatua

SAN GERALDO'S COUSIN Ellen, from Bergen, Norway, is in Málaga this week with her dear friend Ulla, and they spent an evening with us. They planned to take the train but at the last minute took a taxi. We waited at the train station until a text message arrived from Ellen. We then waited at a nearby hotel.

After mojitos at the hotel bar, we went to Mesón Salvador (of course) for a superb meal and lots of love. At the end of the meal, San Geraldo's café con leche arrived adorned with a chocolate sauce heart. Although Sergio had drawn a heart in chocolate and raspberry sauce alongside my brownie, my coffee arrived unadorned. And, ingrate that I am, I complained. So, he took it away and "adorned" it.
