The Cure

Less than a week until I can stop strolling and begin hustling these buns again. Meanwhile, I've had a miserable allergy attack this week, spending several days in bed. Trying to not suddenly jerk my head in the middle of a sneezing or coughing fit has been challenging. But my eye seems to have survived all assaults.

Besides, I think I found the cure for my allergies.

First Cure Theory:
Sunday, our friend Kristina gave me a 500-gram (1-pound) box of Swedish/Finnish chocolates. I was feeling so miserable that I didn't even unseal the box until Wednesday. I then had a couple of chocolates and was feeling much better later that day.

Second Cure Theory:
San Geraldo came home Wednesday afternoon from the market with some chips and surprisingly good ready-made guacamole. I commented on how much better I was feeling later that afternoon.

Third Cure Theory:
Of course, it could be that the weather changed. We went from several dry, warm, summery days, with breezes from all directions stirring up every kind of pollen and dust to a Wednesday afternoon and night of fog and humidity blowing in off the sea.

Then again, it could just be that my allergies have started to run their course, like they always do, and will return another time.

Nah! I'm going with the chocolate cure. Even if I'm wrong, what's a little extra suffering?

Tuesday, Wednesday, stay in bed...

  1. Yes, I am sure it was the chocolates, Mitchell!! It has superpower to drive foreign entities out of the body!! ???
    Whatever works.
Allergies can be most debilitating....amazing how a 'stuffed head' can effect the whole body.
Happy you are feeling better and that you have only a few days before you will be cartwheeling down the boardwalk once again photographing plaid and check outfits!!
    take care.

What a week! The chocolates didn't really solve the problem (although I haven't stopped 'testing" them). I finally got cough syrup yesterday that is clearly helping. (And I've still be taking pics of polyamorous plaids every chance I get.)

I have to admit it hasn't yet cured it but I'm still running tests.

  4. Chocolate cures most things. The best medicine there is, unless you go crazy eating it as I've been known to do.

I've also been known to get carried away, but I've been pretty good this week (although I'm not sure if some would say a half pound of chocolate in two days is being pretty good).

  5. I'm sure it's the chocolates. About those allergies though... Bill, who is just finishing up his various cataract surgery appointment, mentioned to our doctor that his eyes itch and are red and puffy... and that he uses Visine. Oh... that's a big No-No. That stuff has some ingredient that while it gets the red out, is really bad for you. Our doc said to use Optive.... it's more a soothing "natural tear-like" stuff and while I'm sure it isn't as good as a dose of chocolate, will soothe your allergies somewhat. Don't know if you can get it there... but I'm sure there's some alternative. (Godiva chocolates? my favorite)

I use drops specifically for eye allergies every morning and they sure do help with the itchy eyes. Unfortunately, they do nothing for the other allergy issues that come and go. All thats left now is a drip and a cough. But I picked up cough syrup that is making all the difference!
