Citrus Scratch-N-Sniff

SCRATCH ANY ORANGE BLOSSOM (AND THEN USE YOUR IMAGINATION).

This is like believing in fairies. So, per the instructions below the first photo (taken on our plaza this overcast morning), simply scratch any orange blossom in the photo and, if you truly believe, you will experience what I am at this moment experiencing... the rich, delicate, sweet, and soothing fragrance of orange blossoms, which is wafting into our apartment through our open balcony doors.

LEFT BEHIND. ONE OF LAST SEASON'S ORANGES.

Sevilla is already filling with the fragrance and most of the buds haven't even popped yet. When I'm out walking, I can't help but stop for a moment under almost every tree and breathe deeply. The smell is intoxicating and immediately slows down my addled and impatient brain. So scratch the image and repeat after me, "I do believe in fairies. I do. I do."

  1. Of course I believe in Fairies! I've seen tons of them in my day. Some even sported wings at times!

  2. I do believe too! You can see them in all shapes and sizes.

On the fragance, I do love the smell of citrus, lemon, lime, oranges but not that much of grapefruits.

Williams-Sonoma has a grapefruit fragrance kitchen candle that I absolutely love and wish I could get here. (But I don't know why I'm telling you that... since you just said you're not big on the smell!)

  3. Do I believe? Boy, do I ever...I'm one...lol
Something to think about...orange peels once you get the meat of the orange/juice, it still have lots of uses. For example: boil them in sugar water and make preserves or rub them on your arms and you'll smell like citrus the whole day...well, it's better than smelling like petunias. Or you can put them in cheese cloth and place in the closet, as it dries it will also impart a citrus scent...very pleasant.

Boil them? Boil them?!? That's what I call cooking! I love the idea of putting them in cheese cloth (which does border on cooking, however.) And, as for rubbing them on my arms, I am deathly allergic to bee stings, probably not a good idea in my case! I'll just inhale regularly and keep my bee-sting kit nearby.

  6. That is a wonderful smell, sadly I sniff it up, then sneeze it out. UGH..... However I do love that smell, it's like fresh, crisp linens that have been wafting on the line during a breezy sun filled day.

I do the same thing. But if the orange blossoms aren't making me sneeze, something else is!

  7. Mitch. I have scratched so hard I have worn a hole in my computer screen! All I can smell is electrical burning. ;-)

I'm concerned that you might not truly believe in fairies. There's no other logical explanation.

  8. It worked! Thanks Mitch, that was what we needed here!
How beautiful those blossoms are.....I can see that you are intoxicated by the scent. Orange is one of our favourite 'essential oils'.....now to get a tree growing here.....

I love the fact that the fragrance is so strong in the house. Unfortunately, Semana Santa is next week and I think all we'll be smelling will be church incense!

  11. I do believe! You are reminding me of when I lived in Germany and my cousin who lived in Spain came to visit. I took her to see something I thought utterly amazing. An olive tree, a real olive tree, which grew on the street where I lived. I had never seen one before.....I remember her smile and the kind way she remarked,"I live in Spain. I've seen olive trees!"

Yep, we certainly do have our share of olive trees. Jerry (the land-locked South Dakota boy) once excitedly pointed out the "high sea" in Massachusetts to my parents and brother. They lived two blocks from the ocean in New York with views of it from all their windows. They had the same reaction as your cousin.

Sorry about the little marks. I don't know why your room doesn't immediately fill up with the fragrance. Must be something wrong with your computer.

  14. Mmmmm...I do believe!

I have two tiny little lemon trees in my garden valiantly struggling for survival against all odds. I love the smell when they are in flower. The orange blossoms en masse must be marvellous.

The fragrance is incredible, especially in the evening. We had a variety of citrus trees in San Diego and in Palm Springs. I loved them. Our balconies are too small to grow them here, but our neighbor has a lemon tree on her rooftop terrace and it's in full bloom. I love it.
