The Streets of Our Fair (Feria) City

San Geraldo and I plan to head over to la Feria this afternoon. The sun just made a momentary appearance in an extremely overcast sky and rain is predicted for Friday and Saturday. Since the albero (the golden sand) will turn to mud, rainy days will probably not be very pleasant at the fair. Before we leave the house, I thought I'd share some photos taken around the neighborhood over the last couple of days.

  1. I just can't get over how colorful and well-framed your photos always are. These past two posts are just amazing for local color, as well! Wonderful! Who knew all of this was going on in Spain every year, eh?

    1. Thanks, Judith. I do straighten and crop the photos before I post. But the color is mostly just a gift from Spain!

This is all so new to me. I can't believe I didn't know it was going on!

  2. I would love someone to serenade me from a balcony. Did you feel like Juliette or Rapunzel from up there?

Well obviously not Rapunzel. If anyone should come across my golden hair, let me know!

  3. I need a cute little man to serenade me from the streets.

    I'm jealous!

Don't be jealous. It was a very "unusual" serenade.

  4. I hadn't even thought about little girls wearing the flamenco-style dress... they are adorable! That picture of all the women at the bus stop... I swear they look like "ladies of the night" ... even have their advertisement posted above their heads ;-)

I am so glad you noticed that sign. I thought it was kind of funny.

  5. They could be in no other country in the world! Well, perhaps not applying to the last one - But is that a megaphone he's carrying? No doubt to make sure his poems carry that extra 'punch'! (Bob is right. He actually does look rather cute - in a slightly menacing sort of way.)

Yep, that was a megaphone. And, sadly, he's no Paul Simon!

  6. I agree with Judith. Your photos are so beautifully well done that they would make a great coffee table book!

  7. Wonderful, hope San, or should that be Don Geraldo and you have a great time before the heavens open.

  8. Peter:
We're back home. The heavens have not yet opened (well except of course when they sent San Geraldo to Earth). Lots of pictures to come.

  9. Such a beautiful and colorful neighborhood. I think I would have a very difficult time staying indoors. I believe you would find me at some cafe somewhere sitting, eating, drinking and watching all the activity.

That is my favorite past time.

That's usually where you'll find me, when I'm not walking my feet off.

  10. Mitch, that first photo is so beautiful! Soft colours, great light, perfect street scene. Love it!
The 'dressed' people look like they are on a movie set and I expect Zorro to jump down out of the trees or balconies at any moment! Where did that come from? lol
It must all fell surreal at times.....

It is extremely powerful and fun to see people just casually walking the neighborhoods dressed like this. I love it and I hope the novelty of it never lessens for me.
