Would Someone Please Answer That Kid?!?

"MaMA! MaMA! MaMA!"

"MA!!!"

I hear it almost daily during the summer, usually in the coolness of the morning. The cries seem to go on forever. At first I thought the kid was neglected. He doesn't just call out "Mama," he screeches it. "MaMA!" I thought maybe his mother was one of those parents who didn't even notice the noise anymore.

GREAT-NEPHEW JACK, VISITING FROM ENGLAND.
NOT THE KID I''M TALKING ABOUT AND
DEFINITELY NOT DEPRIVED OF LOVE AND ATTENTION.

Poor little guy. He lives across the street and I can see and hear him from my balcony. His name is Pepe. I know because, unlike his mama, the neighbors call back to him. "Hola, Pepe," they say. "Qué tal?" (Hi, Pepe. How are you?)

All Pepe does is call back, "MaMA! MaMA! MA!!!"

Mama has left him out on the terrace for an hour. She finally takes him back inside before it gets too hot. She coos, "Hola, cariño," (Hello, darling.)

Obviously, she does care.

PEPE. ALONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN ON THE BALCONY.

  1. Perhaps she has a need for private time with a visitor? ;)

I hadn't thought of that. She sure wouldn't want him repeating anything he might hear.

  2. Pepe pobres.
El burro sabe más que su madre.

That's one of the few phrases I know in Spanish!

Once I knew what it was it became funny. No music needed. Now I sit and imitate Pepe.

  5. It sounds like the little guy is lonesome. Maybe he needs a sibling or a pet.

He gets lots of love I'm sure when he goes back inside.

We do that, too, when we have the balconies open and hear dogs barking and kids screaming. Fortunately, no one can hear us.

He appears to not mind it and does lots of climbing.

You DID see the "kid" in the video, didn't you? Not really child abuse.

Apparently... as long as they're in a cage.

  10. Now THAT would be annoying! Must be a way to teach/show her that this does bother other people and she could respect the fact that she lives in a community not on an island by herself!

Strange that, once I knew it was a parrot, it stopped bothering me.

  11. smiling. As I read, I kept thinking, "How could a mother be so heartless to leave her child alone to cry like that."

You are kind of a trickster, Mr. M

Oh, I wouldn't be posting about it. I'd be calling the authorities!
