The eye is nothing to worry about. It happens to me every so often and will pass within a few days. I took the photo this afternoon and it already looked better than it had in the morning and not nearly as bad as it has on other occasions. Still, John Sebastian's song, "Red Eye Express," has been playing in my head for more than 24 hours. So, now it can play in yours, too. As John says, "It's the one all the boys in the band like best."
Stay tuned for just a little more from Brooklyn. Next up: "Diner Dining and Doggy Bags" (or something like that).

DeleteWell, I was always told I would poke my eye out with that thing!
Mom looks great! Glad you are safely home! Maybe next time...........
ReplyDeleteCarole:
DeleteAh, warmth and sunshine...
Dehydrated eyes from the plane air conditioning. Nice to be home, hey.
ReplyDeleteAndrew:
DeleteVery nice to be back under the Mediterranean sun. Too bad the Duchess doesn't live under it, too!
Home safe and sound....if not a little red!
ReplyDeleteThis happens to me too a couple times a year for no apparent reason....tiny blood vessels break/rupture. here's lookin' at ya! lol
Love those nails DD!

DeleteWe discover more in common with each blog post!
The Duchess is just beautiful! She doesn't even have bloodshot eyes ;-) Now... just how much did you drink on the flight home? The worst red-eye flight I was ever on was from Hawaii back to the mainland... I had the very last seat (one of those tiny ones that aren't intended for human butts) so it wasn't even my eyes that suffered fatigue. Glad you're both home safe and sound... or at least safe.
ReplyDeleteSharon:
DeleteThose airline seats are ridiculous. And first class is not in our future (with the old mileage programs -- 10,000 miles for a free and easy to get upgrade -- first class is in our past).
I only had one drink on the flight home... and that was after my eye had already exploded. Should have drunk more and evened out the red in both eyes.
Happy to hear you both made it home safe. Quick trip. The Dowager Duchess looks fabulous and I love her nails.
ReplyDeleteNubian:
DeleteThe Dowager Duchess is amazing... and always looks fabulous. (She has no clue how beautiful she has always been.)
Glad you're back safe and sound. Lovely shot of your mom!
ReplyDeleteMs. Sparrow:
DeleteThanks Ms. Sparrow. I've been out of bed 5 hours. Spent an hour out having coffee, a half hour visiting with a neighbor. Time for lunch and a nap!
When my eyes look like that it's usually accompanied by a terrible case of the munchies.
ReplyDeleteStephen:
DeleteI remember those days, but I used to get just an overall pink.
Eek! That eye freaked me out so much that I delayed opening up this post. But I was duly soothed by all the following images - and ending on a 'high'!
ReplyDeleteHowever, welcome home! You must have pussies all over you now.
Raybeard:
DeleteDudo and Moose are very happy to have us home, but they had amazingly wonderful and loving care while we were gone. They didn't suffer. I won't take a picture of my eye today. It's actually a bit uglier but not feeling as bad. I kind of like that opening shot; I much prefer that to my jet-lagged, unshaven, New York pallor, total image.
Wonderful photos, all! (Well... except for the eye ;)
ReplyDeleteJudeet:
DeleteI kind of like the eye photo!
Your mother looks wonderful. I always love her smile. Now that you're back home, take it easy for a few days!
ReplyDeleteKristi:
DeleteJet-lag is so much easier to deal with when you don't have to worry about going to work! Skyping with the Duchess and the Kid Brother in less than an hour. Then a nap!
Your red eye is called a subconjunctival haemorrhage. It's the rupture of a small blood vessel beneath the conjunctiva and looks worse than it actually is because the small leakage of blood spreads out a long way as if in a very thin sandwich.
ReplyDeleteIt can occur for no reason at all, or because of a simple trauma such as rubbing your eye or a sneeze. They can be caused by dry eye and the consequent irritation and rubbing of the tissues, and occasionally by high blood pressure.
They look ghastly but so long as you don't get them very often, no need to worry.
Jean:
DeleteThanks for all that info! When I was working I would get them quite regularly. I got one in NY while visiting my mother some years back that was so unbelievably bad, it scared me. I took a picture and emailed it to our nephew who's a retinal surgeon. When I learned I didn't even need to worry about that one, I stopped worrying about them at all. And since I stopped working, they're a very rare occurrence. They sometimes feel like mini-explosions in my eye when they bad ones happen. And, yep, sometimes they were a direct result of a sneeze or rubbing. Other times... it felt like spontaneous combustion. Anyway, I know someone who gets them every so often and then won't go out in public. My vanity, thankfully, doesn't go so far.
