GONE... IN A HEARTBEAT. |
Two days ago, San Geraldo returned from the supermarket with a stocking full of coal for me. And it's not even Christmas! Actually it was an imitation burlap sack with a drawstring tie and it was filled with "carbón de chocolate con leche" (milk chocolate coal). It was light and airy and melted in my mouth like chocolate mousse. I didn't share. (San Geraldo prefers dark chocolate, anyway.) Besides, there's his diet to consider. I'm only thinking of him.
NOTE TO THE DOWAGER DUCHESS: I DID NOT SAVE THE EMPTY BURLAP BAG. (I DON'T CARE WHAT PROJECT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO USE IT FOR ... SOMEDAY.) |
Sunday night, we had dinner at Sandpiper. Jessica brought me a birthday dessert — ice cream, bananas, and caramel... with a cherry on top. I ate the dessert all by myself... along with my complimentary Bailey's Irish Cream... and San Geraldo's complimentary Bailey's Irish Cream.
OH, HOW I SUFFER... |
So, we're off. Think of my selflessness as I fly across the ocean with San Geraldo...
heh heh GREAT STUFF! Happiest of birthdays to you, Mitchell-- so well deserved for all of the fun chuckles you bring us all, and the great entertainment you provide with your excellent writing skills. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteJudy:
DeleteThanks as always! I've only just begun to celebrate.
Selfless was exactly the word I was going to use!! You have SG's best interests at heart!! It is a wonder that you are not a HEAVY man, Mitchell (one has to be so careful nowadays).
ReplyDeleteOh right! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
DeleteJim:
DeleteI ain't heavy; I'm The Kid Brother's brother. (Sorry.) But, for me, it is ALWAYS about everyone else. Thanks!
I suspect NYC will bring more chocolate! Am I right? If it doesn't, well ~~ there now you should be getting some!
ReplyDeleteRon:
DeleteThis morning, the Dowager Duchess had waiting on the kitchen table a package of Pepperidge Farms double-chocolate Milanos.... just for me. And it's only just the beginning.
You, too, are a Saint, Mitchell! What selfless acts you endure for San Geraldo. Happiest of birthdays - filled with lots of chocolate that you will be forced to eat.
ReplyDeleteJo:
DeleteI told San Geraldo yesterday that I outranked him because I was a martyr. Chocolate mousse on the plane yesterday. Cafe mocha right now. The suffering continues.
Happy birthday! It is a joy to know that selfless people like you (and I) are in the world.
ReplyDeleteMichael:
DeleteAnd humble, too! What would they do without us?!?
Happy Birthday! I laughed out loud about saving the burlap bag. That is soooo something I would do.
ReplyDeleteHarpers Keeper:
DeleteMaybem while we're here visiting the Dowager Duchess, we'll just pack up some boxes for you!
San Geraldo is right about that dark chocolate. The darker the better.
ReplyDeleteStephen:
DeleteI used to love dark chocolate, too. But, as is my wont, I have sacrificed myself to milk chocolate for San Geraldo's benefit.
I think it's cool that Vodafone sells chocolate too.
ReplyDeleteArchguy:
DeleteIt's a good thing they don't! I'd NEVER get a fix.
Oh, and happy birthday.
ReplyDeleteArchguy:
DeleteThanks so much. I don't think I've ever mentioned... I love your profile photo.
Hot damn! As if I didn't already think you and San Geraldo are the coolest.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and many more (bdays and chocolates).
Robyn:
DeleteAw, thanks! Just finished my first cafe mocha of the day. Looking forward to hitting the bag of double-chocolate Milanos later!
Happy Birthday! And may you enjoy many more happy moments of selfless sacrifice through your long life!!
ReplyDeleteKristi:
DeleteEnjoy? Enjoy? I constantly suffer... But if it gives someone else a little pleasure, that's all I ask.
And thanks!
Happy Birthday Mitchell! Oh, how you sacrifice yourself for others...
ReplyDeleteDid I mention I've found some chocolate I can eat...it's made by Skinny Cow. (Don't have a cow man!)
Jacqueline:
DeleteI think of you every time I have chocolate... so I guess I'm thinking about you just about all the time! Skinny Cow! I had no idea they had chocolate. We used to love their ice cream bars
this all looks proper for a birthday ; I think you should spend a week in celebration.!
ReplyDeleteSpo:
DeleteI'm trying to.
Happy Birthday sir!! Now you have me craving chocolate! Damn!
ReplyDeleteOE:
DeleteYou can count on me to encourage a chocolate craving.
Happy Late Birthday and safe travels! Me thinks the Dowager is a bit of a hoarder like my Mother, according to your mention of the burlap bag. Cheers!

DeleteThe Duchess has gotten a little better (but only a little) over the years. She DID throw out the burlap bag, but only because it had begun to deteriorate.
