Lucky, Lucky Me?

I took a long walk on the beach Monday and, as I strolled, I thought I'd pick up perhaps four pieces of sea glass to add to my collection. I was thinking about the standard colours I always find: light green, dark green, brown, and clear (frosted). I haven't come across another piece of yellow sea glass since I dropped one a few minutes after I discovered it (click here).

(Click any image. If you get as excited as I did, you just might [almost, nearly, but not quite] pee yourself.)

Everywhere I looked were beautiful translucent shells in a multitude of colours. These shells are always to be found here, but never have I seen them in this quantity and in such variety. I had already found my four pieces of glass and decided to start another collection.

After carefully pocketing my new treasures, I noticed one more bit of gold shining in the wet sand just beyond the shoreline. I bent down and discovered it was a piece of glass. Yellow glass! I placed it deep in my other pocket and it actually made it home with me. Simple pleasures are definitely the best.

How'd I get so lucky?

Beautiful stuff! I didn't really see the lovely colors in those shells until you turned them over and separated them out for the other photo. Wonderful!

Sadly, that photo on the beach really doesn't show an area where there were so many of these colorful shells. But I did have to turn some over to discover the beauty.

I had started out simply taking a walk on the paseo, then decided to head onto the beach, then sea glass. I love random.

  3. I collect both sea glass and different shells - definitely simple pleasures are best. I keep mine in a gigantic bottle I found at the thrift, looks like something Johnny Depp would have drank whiskey out of in one of his Pirate movies. I have never found yellow sea glass though - great score!

I've got the sea glass that I've found in a large clear glass vase. The glass my friend Elena and her daughter Paula have found fill a long tray that holds big candles. The shells are now in a contemporary, simple cut glass bowl. I was so excited to find that yellow sea glass. But it doesn't compare in color and shape to the one that got away!

  4. Love the shells. I had a little collection of tiny tiny shells (smaller than a grain of rice) that were clear emerald green. The wind blew them away one day, so now I get to start a new collection. I sing this song every day and still don't know how I got so lucky ...

  6. One of our favourite 'Simple Pleasures'!! Nice yellow find, Mitchell. Those shells aren't shabby either!
David Myles is from here....Halifax!! Actually he was born in neighbouring province of New Brunswick. He has his own weekend radio music program here on CBC. He is very popular and well-liked.
We are frantically, well almost, trying to figure out where this was taped/filmed. Maybe New Brunswick somewhere.

I always think of you guys when I'm out sifting through sea glass. And, David Myles, yet another reason to be thankful for Halifax!

  8. If I were San Geraldo, I would be starting to worry about your collections and the storage of them. The shells are very pretty though.

  9. I quit thinking of it as "luck"... more so that I am fortunate to be so blessed. We don't have to go into deities or the such... doesn't matter... it's that life is good - sea glass or a gorgeous sunset... a lovely day or a great lab report.... I am thankful for all .... and am happy that you got some yellow sea glass.

Truth is, I don't really think of it as luck or a blessing; it just fit the song. And I wholeheartedly agree with you.
