The Genius of Cervantes

Granted, Miguel de Cervantes was a genius. Although "Don Quixote" is not the easiest read, especially in the original Spanish, it is brilliant. However, when I talk about genius today, I'm talking about the genius of Meson de Cervantes, the restaurant in Málaga.

After four months, we finally managed to get back to Meson De Cervantes for another meal (click here for last time). Long-time friends Steve and Hector are in Málaga for one of their regular visits and we had the pleasure of their company. I'll take it from the rear with the photos and begin with our departure.

(Click the images to make your mouth water... well, except perhaps for the photos of me.)

My seafood tastes used to be much more limited than they've become and they've grown by leaps and bounds since our move to Spain.

Aw, so flattered you're drooling over us! But, remember, vowels are important. PulpO is octopus. PulpA is pulp.

  11. I've read 'Don Q' three times to date (or is it four?) and have never found it an easy book to get into, despite its intention to be a light-hearted fantasy work. Maybe part of that is in the translation I've been reading, though what you say about the original being less than easy too is reassuring. I certainly hope to read it at least one more time before popping my clogs.
Btw: Did you know that Spain's greatest writer and Shakespeare, the WORLD'S - okay, England's - greatest writer, died, some say, on the very same day in 1616 - or at least within a day or two of each other? Strange, that.

I'm pleased to see that in the last pic, the photo-bombing chap(s?) at the back is using a palm-outward sign. If those two fingers had been given with the back of the hand that, in this country anyway, would have been VERY rude!

We were made aware of the backwards peace sign a while back. I'm grateful. As for Don Quixote. I read it in high school and loved it I had to read it at university in its original Spanish. And I did. I tried reading it again five years ago -- in English -- and felt like an idiot. Clearly, I only thought I "got it" the first two times.

  12. We were only in Malaga for two very short days or I would have tried to make my way towards your home to try and meet up. Just back from Spain and loved it. I can see why you live there. The food was great - your meal looks fabulous!

  13. Oh!!! I took a class dedicated solely to Don Quijote when I was studying my MA in Madrid. I read it in its entirety and in the original Spanish! So good!! This December, I'll be running the Málaga Marathon! I'll have to keep this restaurant in mind! It'd be awesome to finally meet you!

Oh, would love to meet you this year! The owners of Meson de Cervantes have another restaurant nearby that specializes in tapas. Our nephew and niece-in-law are crazy about it (it's closed Mondays).
