Up Against The Wall

Today was a day spent sipping Spanish coffee ... for two hours; doing laundry; rearranging furniture; eating lunch in; washing dishes; putting away groceries; and relaxing. Yesterday was not much different, except for the hour I spent before lunch lying on the beach. I'm not quite back in tune, but I'm getting there.

(CLICK ANY IMAGE... YADA YADA YADA.)
SORRY ABOUT THE GLARE.
(FOR MY FRIENDS IN THE UK:  THAT'S CALLED 'SUNSHINE.')

San Geraldo re-re-re-attached the corner yucca to the wall. More wire encased in more hose and hooked tightly to bolts drilled into mortar ... in four places. It's not pretty (we'll camouflage it all with other plants and vinery). However, if that yucca goes over now, it's taking the wall with it. (And I'll have another blog post, which will be titled: "A Few Bricks Short Of A Load."

I tried to take some photos of San Geraldo's handiwork, but Dudo and Moose kept getting into the picture.

  1. Hello Mitch,
Gosh the restraining equipment for the Yucca plant looks to be of industrial proportions. Surely now all will be well....unless, as you say, the wall goes too. Well, looking on the bright side (and the sunshine would suggest that is something with which you are very used to doing) if the Yucca should pull down the wall it will be a relatively easy way of achieving French Windows!

Glad to see that all is well in your corner of the world.

Except for San Geraldo's cyclonic winds that come and go, all is well!

  2. It looks like quite the engineering feat, with Dudo and Moose having signed on as inspectors!

Dudo and Moose are in the middle of everything and Dudo watches very intently (Moose just wanders in and out). I wouldn't be surprised if Dudo watches the construction so he knows how to pull it down when we're not looking.

  3. It looks like it would now take a hurricane to knock over your Yucca plant.

I can't even jiggle the yucca now. Fortunately, we don't get hurricanes here. But, if we did, the yucca could be the only thing left standing.

  4. Ahhhh, glad to see your'e enjoying life-- AND with "glare" :)
Good job, San Geraldo! Lucky that Dudo and Moose are there to assure quality control;)

Another glorious day (despite intermittent "cyclonic" winds). And today is a holiday -- Andalucía Day. A flamenco singer just finished a REALLY LONG set on the paseo below our windows. Not brilliant. The sound and dissonant rhythms made me a bit nervous (and Dudo and Moose, the critics, came back inside). Glad he's done!

  5. For some reason I started singing "Anchors Aweigh" (or is it away?)... when I saw all those cables anchored into the wall... Looks like the boys are making sure it's all secure... aren't they a big help?

You're just jealous because your knobby knees never see the sun!

  9. SO nice to be at the beach. It's not exactly beach weather here at -30C. Oh well.

Minus 30?!? My heart goes out to you. It's currently 18C here and supposed to get up to 20 today.

  10. I don't want the wall to go but the possible post title would be almost worth it, lol. Moose and Dudo know they're good looking, so of course they're going to 'strike a pose' as often as possible...although that last photo.... Looks like a furry charmer is contemplating nipping a beachy toe.
The Great Scot has trouble maintaining weight as well; hence, all the cookery.

I don't want the wall to go either. But, if it does, there's also Jefferson Airplane's "We Can Be Together" for that blog post ("Up against the wall..." "Tear down the wall..." etc.)

We've had some really strong winds from all different directions. Nothing has budged!

  12. Perhaps you'd need one of those large pot holders where you put the yucca in and fill the space up with gravel. It would better counter-balance the tree and be more resistant. Me thinks the yucca has outgrown your pot,if it can be thrown down like that...

The yucca would stay put had we planted it in clay instead of plastic. But plastic is much easier to move around (which won't be happening now, since it's permanently affixed to the wall)! Oh well.
