Yon Virgin [of Carmen] Fair

We made it to the fair Tuesday night, arriving early so we could see all the lights come on at sunset. The noise was deafening at times, and for no good reason. But, the crowds were easily manageable and the sights and lights were wonderful. San Geraldo headed home once he saw everything lit up. Judy and I stayed around a bit longer and watched dance performances by student groups of different ages. The people watching was beyond compare. Phallic balloons were unusually popular this year.

BALLOONS!
BALLOONS!
(MORE DISTURBING TO SEE KIDS TOTING THESE AROUND.)

Tonight there will be fireworks! (Click any image to increase the fun.)

STOPPED FOR A PIC OF KIDS HAVING FUN; CAUGHT ONE HAVING A TEMPER TANTRUM.

  1. So many wonderful pictures. I particularly like the images of little girls in traditional (flamenco?) dress.

  2. Great Carrmen Fair but the most beautiful are small girls in colourful dresses. I have seen flamenco dance in Granda. And Judy's photo is the best.

I agree regarding the "flamencas." Judy will be pleased to have confirmation that her photo is the best!

  3. The good thing about Spain is that each town has their own few days of fiestas during the Summer. When I first moved to Spain a few years ago I remember how fun I thought it all was! Your photos certainly look like you had fun!

And I just read that Málaga now has TWO processions for the Virgin of Carmen. They do it all again Sunday. We had a great time. So glad Judy and I went there Tuesday when everything was closed. Great contrast.

  4. What a festive time indeed! Nothing like a fair to bring out all those childhood memories......of getting sick on every ride I went on! Fun though.
I really think that 'witch' is holding on to her broomstick, right? Of course she is!!
LOVE those little girls' dresses! What fun to be a little girl!! Yes, I just said that!

No matter how I looked at that witch car, it didn't get any better!

  5. Two summers working in California, working a sales booth at various fairs... and meeting Paris Hilton twice in one day at the Pomona fair.... cured me of fairs forever. Haven't been to one since.
Hmmm, could slap some glow in the dark paint on the balloons and have a cockfight in a dark room...

And just think, Paris Hilton made two new friends that day -- one each time she met you! I didn't included most of my balloon photos. Little kids carrying them around was just too disturbing.

  6. The balloons are a step past phallic, methinks. I would like see some real dogs meeting up with those dogs. It could all get out of control and become quite hysterical.

Live dog and "air dogs" would have been hilarious. As for balloons, there were those huge fat ones and then really long skinny ones. Something for everyone I guess (well, maybe not).
