(Sway) Dance With Me

Summer is over. Fuengirola is now filling up with non-Spaniards. And many of the talented musicians and street performers have moved on while many of the mediocre ones have come out of hiding. These are the ones who travel with their Karaoke back-up. Without it, we might have no idea what they're actually playing. Played badly, one version of "Guantanamera" or "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" sounds pretty much like another... and another... and another... and another.

SOMETIMES, THE GUY ON THE PLASTIC MELODICA
IS ACCOMPANIED BY A GUY ON A PLASTIC ENGLISH HORN.
"GUANTANAMERA" WAS UP NEXT.

Although the street-walking (and bicycle pedaling) knife sharpener is here year-round, he's much more visible (and audible) now that the crowds are gone. The music he makes is not at all unpleasant. And the sharpening machine on the back of his bike doesn't make all that much noise.

A WELL-PRACTICED MUSICIAN.

The way the first song is supposed to sound...

  1. Of course I listened to each .... personally I didn't think the street musicians were that bad... maybe that's why I wear hearing aids....

Those two guys actually sound better on this post than they do live. I think it's because you can't tell how much is back-up and how much is them. (Only the bad notes are theirs.) But being "hearing challenged" in this case helps!

  3. I don't really have an ear for music but none of them sounded unlistenable. Is that a word?

It's definitely a word. And, trust me, after a few days of it, those guys are definitely unlistenable.

  4. The 'well-practiced' one got Sophie's attention!!
The other two guys are just serenading you guys!! From here, it doesn't sound that bad, but there is a huge ocean in between us!!

I wonder if Spanish knife sharpeners have to go to school to learn to play a trill on a pan flute. Everyone I've heard does it so beautifully. As for the other guys, I'm sorry I didn't catch them in a performance of "Guantanamera" or, even better/worse, "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." THEN you'd know how bad they are.

They must make so much money here that they can afford the fare to Sitges.

  6. There are no street musicians here; too hot. I don't know if this is a blessing or a curse not to have street musicians.

I LOVE having street musicians. With that, comes those I wish would perform on a different street, but it's still worth it.
