The Butterfly Effect

A couple of weeks ago, before San Geraldo surprised Elena and me on the beach, we had an interesting "sighting."

What we saw was a woman with an unbelievably painful looking sunburn. Her skin sharply contrasted between pearl white (previously unexposed) and crimson (clearly overexposed). She didn't appear to be in pain, and she also made no attempt to protect her skin from further damage. We both winced when we saw her. And then she bent over.

One of the above images is the real deal. The others are my "artistic treatments." Click to enlarge, if you dare.

Elena called the view a butterfly. I wonder if she meant "butt-er-fly."

And now, perhaps, I'll stop focusing on body parts and move on to other sights (at least for a little while).

  1. Sometimes when people have had to much to drink outdoors they don't notice that their skin is on fire. No doubt she suffered later terribly.

This was a very sober-looking trio. Some visitors (from places with little sun) set a "really good burn" as their goal. She seemed so unconcerned that day. I can't imagine it didn't hurt like hell later!

It's pretty clear she was from a northern clime. Maybe it just felt like frostbite to her.

I think it gave Elena pain every time she looked at her.
