And The Green Grass Grows All Around

Worst case: My Mother The Dowager Duchess will be home Friday, 6 March. That was simply automatic based on her standard insurance coverage. However, she might be squeezed onto tomorrow's (Thursday's) weekly evaluation schedule for "release" in a day or two.

Meanwhile, the Dowager Duchess looks and feels better than she did when we visited in November. Her two daily occupational and physical therapy sessions have turned into gym workouts. She's doing squats, pull-downs, leg lifts with weights on her ankles. She's on the stationery bike every day (which is good, because she never learned how to ride an UN-stationery one) and she's walking around whenever she gets the chance.

All good news, which means I can get back to talking about San Geraldo...

... And food.

We went to the Parkview Diner for lunch Tuesday before heading to rehab. Apparently, the ownership of the diner had changed and no one told me. But the management and staff are still the same, and the food and portions remain excellent. San Geraldo was feeling a bit stressed (minus teen temperatures can do that to a person), so he had his favorite "comfort meal" -- hot, open-faced, turkey sandwich.

START WITH A PLATTER OF TURKEY SLICES ATOP BREAD SLICES.
FOLLOW WITH A PLATTER OF ACCOMPANIMENTS.
ADD THE MASHED POTATOES TO THE TURKEY ATOP THE BREAD.
ADD THE PEAS TO THE MASHED POTATOES
THAT WERE ADDED TO THE TURKEY THAT WAS ATOP THE BREAD.
ADD THE GRAVY TO THE PEAS
THAT WERE ADDED TO THE MASHED POTATOES
THAT WERE ADDED TO THE TURKEY THAT WAS ATOP THE BREAD.
ADD THE CRANBERRY SAUCE TO THE PLATTER WITH THE GRAVY
THAT WAS ADDED TO THE PEAS
THAT WERE ADDED TO THE MASHED POTATOES
THAT WERE ADDED TO THE TURKEY THAT WAS ATOP THE BREAD.
YADA YADA YADA
A VERY CONTENTED SAN GERALDO.
WHAT ABOUT ME? A HUGE OMELETE WITH BACON, MUSHROOMS, AND CHEESE...
ACCOMPANIED BY HASH BROWNS AND WHEAT TOAST.

San Geraldo will be so pleased to hear Louis Jordan pronounce the word "roots."

  1. Rutts.....love it! Must be a 'mid-west' thing?
Fingers crossed for an early release for your mother, Mitch. You won't be able to hold her back.....she will be in such good shape!! Good for her!
My sister told me once that 'things happen for a reason'.
Just curious (Ron has always given me a hard time for the way I pronounce 'route')...
how do you pronounce it? He says 'root' and I say 'rowt'.
    Stay warm.

  2. My, what generous servings. I would feel a little 'over comforted', I think.

    1. Keep in mind for your trip to New York Andrew - one meal feeds two.

  3. Holy cow, those are some "healthy" portions *LOL* :) Really, really, REALLY looks yummy, though -- both plates!

Madame la D. Duchesse, I am so pleased to hear of your continued good health and wonderful exercise opportunities :) Woo hoo!

  4. Fun post, Mitchell...I'd go for your choice for breakfast, rather than San Gerlado's

  5. I prefer your omelet to the turkey sandwich. Don't like peas except cold in a salad, and don't like cranberries.

  6. Oh I like both your choices! My hubby likes gravy on anything - I could put it on cardboard and he would say yum. That omelette looks pretty amazing too. At least you can fulfill your New York food cravings while you are there :)

  7. I'm stuffed just looking at the pics! The news about your mother is FANtastic!

The kidling loved that song and sang it all the time. San G wouldn't approve her pronunciation of 'roots' however, lol.
