Toledo: Of Course, We Had To Eat!

So, did you think I wasn't going to tell you about the food?!?

We had a few disappointing restaurant experiences in Toledo. Our first night, we went to a restaurant recommended by our hotel. It was classy and expensive. The food was exceptional. Our waitress was pleasant enough. Everyone else was indifferent — to everyone — to the point of being rude. It was called Alfileritos 24 and we would never go back.

There were a couple of other disappointments before San Geraldo and I finally went to a place called Cafe Del Fin (click here for their website). It had looked interesting as we passed by one day. It was closed that night when we went back in a downpour. So, our last night we tried again and we were in luck.

The food was excellent. The prices were surprisingly reasonable (Toledo's prices are much higher than Fuengirola's). And the service from the two servers/bartenders was beyond compare. Warm, friendly, charming, professional. A cool crowd, too. Too bad Judyshannonstreetwhat was under the weather and didn't get to experience this meal.

CHICKEN FAJITAS WITH PEPPERS AND SAUCE.
SAN GERALDO HAS HUGE HANDS.
THIS GIN & TONIC WAS THE SIZE OF A GOLDFISH BOWL.
FORTUNATELY, IT TASTED MUCH BETTER. SO I HAD ONE, TOO.
CHICKEN SKEWERS.
HAMBERGUESITAS: BEEF (GREEN BUN) AND CHICKEN.
A TOSTA: MIXED MUSHROOMS, GOAT CHEESE, AND HONEY.
MID-MEAL, OUR LADY OF FÁTIMA PROCESSED DOWN THE STREET
AND PASSED RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT.
NO ONE IN THE RESTAURANT KNEW WHY...
SAN GERALDO'S "DEATH BY CHOCOLATE."
HE COULDN'T FINISH IT!
MY "CHOCOLATE BROWNIE WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM
AND HARD CHOCOLATE TOPPING."
OUR COFFEES WERE SERVED WITH LOVE.
MY 'LOVE' LASTED TO THE VERY END.
A PARTING SHOT.

  1. Now THAT place is a must! You have both of us drooling here Mitchell!
Loved your comment: "No one in the restaurant knew why..." and I added in my head...nor do they care! (maybe I'm reading too much into this).
Now off to find some chocolate!

I thought I had had my fill of chocolate for a few days! I was right. For a few days!!! I'm so glad we found Del Fin. It changed our attitude about dining in Toledo.

Hard chocolate topping! As if that brownie weren't good enough. Perhaps the best I've had (other than Jerry's).

  3. Don't you love these little discoveries - we had the same experience in Valencia and Grenada. If it was May 13 it was because that was the day that the children had their first "miraculous" apparition in 1917.

Thank you so much for the info about Fátima since I was too lazy to look it up. It WAS May 13.

I had ordered a beer. In Spain, it's common for the waiters/bartenders to free-pour the liquor until you say stop. Then they keep pouring until you beg them to stop. The waiter brought out the Bombay Safire and a huge peel of orange and lemon. It smelled so good that I cancelled my beer and switched. I did not regret it.

  5. Gin-ormous G&T! I am happy that your love lasted to the end. If you read JG's recent post about epitaphs, that would be a great one for you. "His love lasted to the end." We should all be so fortunate.

Everything was exceptional. The tosta was too rich for Jerry, so I had it all (and loved it), which he used to justify ordering Death by Chocolate!

  7. San G's huge hands? Hmmmm. Please note that I refuse to make any cross-reference to recent remarks about the little hands of one D.Trump (That 'Great Unifier'!) being dismissed by him as not having any correspondence with another part of his anatomy. No, I will NOT go there!

  9. Great looking meal - we had a few hit and misses too. Everywhere the tourists flock too the prices get jacked up but we did manage to find a few great restaurants too

There are so many more affordable choices down here in our area. Even so, it's disappointing when you end up in a tourist trap and don't realize until it's too late. We had a couple of experiences in Sevilla when we first arrived that we'd like to forget!
