Palmeros Vs. Palmeras

I was so caught up in la musica (the music) and Los Mellis yesterday that I completely forgot to include some photos of Teatro Cervantes, built in 1870. It replaced the previous theatre (destroyed by fire), which had been built in the early 1500s to celebrate a royal visit by Queen Isabella II.

Years of neglect, and poor management and planning culminated in Málaga City Council acquiring Teatro Cervantes in 1984, then obtaining public grants to renovate and restore the space. (Don't forget to click the images.)

CEILING BY BERNARDO FERRÁNDIZ, 1870.
AN ALLEGORY OF THE CITY OF MÁLAGA.
PHOTOS TAKEN PRE-CONCERT.
MY QUICK COMPOSITE TO GIVE YOU A SENSE OF THE INTERIOR.

When I talked about "palmeros" in yesterday's blog post, I might have confused some of my readers. So, I've provided a couple of photos below to clarify the difference between "palmeros" and "palmeras."

TWO PALMEROS.

TWO PALMERAS.
EQUALLY DELICIOUS? YOU DECIDE.

  1. The theatre is so .......grand! Or would that be grande!?
In any case, I could spend hours in there clicking away (before or after a concert of course). beautiful!
Quite the difference between these two.....palmeros/palmeras!

I wish I had had more time for photos. I was blown away when I entered. What a surprise. Next time, however, we're reserving a box! Yes, palmeros are very talented but I think I still prefer palmeras.

I was really surprised when we entered the theatre. And the acoustics are excellent, too.

Jerry has a palmera regularly. But never a palmero.

The theatre was a surprise to me. Continuous improvements are going on the neighborhood and the plaza, but I had no idea how beautiful the interior was.

  6. Love your composite Mitch!

What a magnificent structure ~ such beauty in architecture and decoration.

Now to decide ~~ so difficult. Did you noticed how beautiful the twins hands are!

Those shots weren't intended to be combined or the composite would have been much better. Next time! And, yes, the twins hands -- musical instruments -- are beautiful. But, I've got Jerry and you've got Jim, so we'll stick with those palmeras!

The ceiling was stunning. I couldn't stop looking up. I'm sure it was some painstaking restoration work, too.
