"Oh, this was a mistake," he soon said.
He took out his IKEA dish cloth and wiped the back of his neck.
"I don´t know if I´m going to make it," he said.
The Kid Brother and I slowed the pace for the very uncomfortable San Geraldo.
He DID make it to the restaurant, but not before sticking the dish cloth under his baseball cap.

ABOUT TO CROSS SURF AVENUE. WHAT ARE WINGS FOR? TO PUT SOME DISTANCE BETWEEN US AND THE PUBLIC EMBARRASSMENT. |
When I pointed out "the look" to the Kid Brother, he said, ¨What the...?!?," shook his head and moved a few feet away. I joined him.
After a very pleasant — and very cool — lunch, we decided to take the subway home. San Geraldo rode the two stops to The Duchess´ apartment and The Kid Brother and I rode another 15 minutes to his neighborhood. It was hot (remember?), so the Kid Brother suggested a stop at Carvel´s for ice cream.

2 sundaes ~ The Kid has it all figured out!
ReplyDeleteOh I know it's 2 for the both of you, but at first it translated in my head as 2 for him!
YAY The Kid!
Another nice day, well, except for SG's headgear. Oy!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Way to go, SG!! I bet nobody batted an eye at his Ikea dishcloth!!
ReplyDeleteNow, I could use one of sundaes right about now.....
oooooooooooooooh, that sundae looks dee-lish!
ReplyDeleteI'm chuckling at this, very welcome after a long day at work!
ReplyDeleteI feel SG's discomfort! It has been absurdly hot here for the past several days. I don't think I have been beyond the reach of the ceiling fan for more than a few minutes at a time. It does feel a little cooler tonight, though.
ReplyDeleteA great way to cool down. Looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteAh, the F train! I had a friend who lived near the Ditmas Av station. I've had many rides on the F from Manhattan. The trains never looked as good as they do now, though.
ReplyDeleteI trust that as you walked to lunch on Coney Island you kept yourself at a respectable distance from San G, with you giving off an expression of "He's NOT with me!" That's what I would have done.
ReplyDeleteCarvel's! I haven't thought of that for years. Lucky pair!
ReplyDeleteWe used to go to Carvel's, too :) On Route 22, in Plainfield, New Jersey :) Yummmmm.
ReplyDeleteWell, the blue plaid washcloth didn't clash with the blue cap... SG might just start a new trend ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt has been a long hot summer, the ice cream looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI like the washcloth look, myself.
ReplyDeleteJust reading your post and I was sweat… hum, perspiring and exhausted – the heat and the walk, you know. I’ll go into the kitchen now and see if we have any ice cream in the freezer … On the way there I may pick-up my dish-cloth – from Costco though, not IKEA.
ReplyDeleteWhere are you?
