Saturday night, in honor of San Geraldo's birthday, we saw the musical "Kinky Boots" at the Adelphi Theatre in London. The show opened on Broadway in 2013 and
(this part was news to me) was based on a 2005 British film which was based on a true story.
Written by Harvey Fierstein, with music and lyrics by Cindi Lauper, Kinky Boots tells the tale of Charlie who inherits a failing shoe factory from his father and revives it by partnering with drag queen, Lola.
It was an energizing, hilarious, inspiring, and empowering theatrical experience.
(Oh, and we loved it.)

nothing kinky about yours and SG's boots!

DeleteSad, isn't it?
I think if I had to wear the London Kinky Boots I'd end the night wearing the San Geraldo Kinky Boots.
ReplyDeleteOne reason we saw the show on Broadway was because we'd seen the movie years earlier and remembered it. I did not know, or recall, that it was based on a true story!
Bob:
DeleteI'd now love to watch the movie and read the history.
What fun! Love the boots pics! San G's seem a bit small.
ReplyDeleteShawn:
DeleteI normal person could use one of San Geraldo's "moon shoes" (as he calls them) as an apartment!
I see SG likes to keep his toes warm.
ReplyDeleteTravel:
DeleteAnd everything else!
Love all three kinky boots here!! lol
ReplyDeleteWe saw the movie in 2005 and totally enjoyed it. I can imagine how good it is to see this production 'live'.
Jim:
DeleteI can't believe I had never even heard of the movie. What could I have been doing?
SG's are my style, but love those red ones! I bet the show was incredible to see live.
ReplyDeleteWilma:
DeleteI was looking forward to seeing it but had no idea I would love it so much.
The red boots are very kinky! I would be crippled after a minute in them. Your boots are very snazzy. SG's look very warm and cosy.
ReplyDeleteCat Lover:
DeleteThat describes us fairly well. I'm always looking for snazzy while Jerry is always looking for warm and cosy.
That sounds like a really fun show. I'm not nearly kinky enough to even enter the theater, I assume, unless they allow kinky sneakers (with holes in them).
ReplyDeleteA Beer For the Shower:
DeleteOh, they'd definitely let you in. They let ME in wearing a pair of Timberland ducks.
I had seen the film a number of years ago when we still had a Blockbuster video account. Loved it then, but loved the show even more when we saw it on Broadway. So glad you got to see it. It gave me a new appreciation for Cyndi Lauper as a songwriter.
ReplyDeleteCarole:
DeleteCyndi Lauper is gifted. As for the film, I had never heard of it but will have to watch it now.
It all sounds lovely; it all made me smile.
ReplyDeleteSpo:
DeleteThe show had me teary eyed at times. But it was so uplifting.
Our 60 year old lady friend "soon to be OUT and about" (long cool story there) gave us free tickets to Kinky Boots. So loved the movie and her!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for refreshing my world!!
Ron:
DeleteThe musical was a joy. Now I really want to see the original movie. Would love to hear the story of your friend, too.
