There's been a little summer market going on this past week in Plaza San Rafael. We can see part of it from our terrace. Just a number of small tents with gift items, clothing, jewelry, incense, dried fruit, candy, nuts... I stopped by the other evening and picked up some dried peaches (soooooo good) and apricots. They were a bit pricey, so we enjoyed them but I won't go back for more. The market continues to grow with more vendors adding tents. It will only be here through this week, which is when many of the vacationers (especially Spaniards) head back to work.

THE 110-YEAR-OLD FRENCH CAROUSEL WAS INSTALLED IN JULY FOR THE SUMMER SEASON. |
|
I AVOIDED THE CANDY... BUT IT SURE LOOKED GOOD. |
|
SUCH A SHAME. THE BLONDE WAS WORKING A BOOTH, BUT HER OUTFIT WASN'T FOR SALE. |

THE STATUE OF SAN RAFAEL IN BACKGROUND. |

THE ROMAN RUINS AND THE BEACH. AT LEFT, THE DELICIOUS AND EXPENSIVE DRIED FRUIT.
(THE OWNER CONTINUES TO "PUSH' THE DRIED SOUR CHERRIES FROM THE USA.) |
I walked by the other night and saw a magician performing in an open area of the plaza. But, the first few days, there was a tent with a sign advertising "THE WOMAN WITHOUT BODY." It looked kind of tacky and I certainly wasn't going to pay the price of admission. I think her problem might have been solved, though, because the tent is gone. Two vendors took its place selling clothing and jewelry — apparently for women
with body.

MAYBE SHE JUST NEEDED A TO USE A BETTER SHAMPOO. |
"...better shampoo" - he he!
ReplyDeleteNice that it is not too crowded. Not so good for exhibitors I guess.
Keeper:
DeleteThat was some time before 9:00. The joint is jumping (the entire town is) once the sun sets. They seem to be doing well. (The man-with-the-woman-without-body was just opening up.)
Who says the leopard print is not for sale Mitch? You can always inquire about it!!
ReplyDeleteLove dried fruit. It's difficult to find it here without the sulphites.
Jim:
DeleteI also love dried fruit. I prefer fresh (but sometimes THAT has to be "cooked" ... i.e., cut up). You're right about the leopard tights, and I could even find those shoes; I just couldn't work them like she can.
Dried fruit I enjoy, however some is just too sweet. I love dried apricots....mmmm I can taste them now.
ReplyDeleteIs summer winding down there now?
Chill in the air here!
Ron
Ron:
DeleteSummer is definitely not winding down here. Hot and sunny every day. August is the busiest month. I think much of Spain will head back to work next week, so it should be a lot quieter here. But summer will linger well into September. Glorious weather.
but where there any funnel cakes or corn dogs?
ReplyDeleteSpo:
DeleteFunny you should mention that. I never ate either but did somehow expect to see them when I entered my first Spanish fair two years ago. Funnel cakes would be very popular I'm sure; corn dogs (on a stick) would have everyone laughing.
If you hadn't already guessed, I think 'La Mujer Sin Cuerpo' would have been one of those exhibits with an apparently disembodied, but live and (sometimes) speaking, head - all done with mirrors against a dark backdrop, of course. I hope this info justifies your not having paid to see it, even if out of curiosity. But I reckon you'd thought it out anyway.
ReplyDeleteRaybeard:
DeleteWell, shoot! You mean it wasn't really a live head without a body attached?!? I am SO glad I didn't waste my money!
I like that the whole thing gets the Red Carpet treatment.
ReplyDeleteThat's some street fair, I say!
Bob:
DeleteSo glad you noticed. We thought that was kind of charming. And they sweep the red carpet a few times a day.
What good is a woman without a body?
ReplyDeleteStephen:
DeleteYou're asking ME??? But, the sign was translated to: THE WOMAN WITHOUT BODY and not THE WOMAN WITHOUT A BODY. Maybe it means something different.
Holy Hannah, that woman's outfit was fabulous. If only she rode my bus!!
ReplyDeleteLove the new pic, Mitchell!

Pearl:
DeleteNot a completely uncommon look here. But, somehow, I can't imagine that going over in Minneapolis!
I imagine that the prices would be geared towards the tourists rather than the locals given the location, which is a pity but I guess I understand it. I too like the red carpet - very classy!
ReplyDeleteCraig:
DeleteYou're probably right about the prices. I would do some comparison pricing, but that takes me too close to "cooking."
