Waves Upon a Tropical Shore

Fashion dictates (I believe) that I wear a scarf when the temperature drops below 27C/80F. It's been in the high teens (60sF) during the day. Scarf weather. Gloriously sunny, spend the day outside, scarf weather. But today, San Geraldo's "cyclonic winds" were back... for a little while. And the temperature? Well, it only made it up to 15C/59F! Can you imagine?

CLICK TO SEE HOW WINTERY THE BEACH LOOKED ON MY WALK.

Today's "winter chill" made me think of another of my favorite holiday songs. I'd never seen this original, two-duet version. Too bad it's colorized, but it's still great.

Speaking of colorizing: Our apartment is being painted this week (living room, dining room, and halls). San Geraldo and I bought the paint with big plans to do it ourselves. I wanted to hire someone, but I thought San Geraldo wanted to do the work (and save the money). The buckets of paint sat in the dining room, day after day. I've been dusting them regularly.

TECHNICOLOR... CAPRI PURPLE.

Meticulous in many things, I tend to just slap paint on walls. San Geraldo can take four hours to do one window frame. We learned on Skype that Linda and Tom (sister and brother-in-law in South Dakota) painted half their house in the first two days after we bought our paint. That was more than a week ago. I groaned and told them I would hire someone if it weren't for the fact that San Geraldo wanted to do it himself. San Geraldo said, "I don't necessarily want to do it myself. I thought you wouldn't want to spend the money." Thirty-two years together.

SAHARA GOLD.

I know a painter. I asked him. He starts Tuesday morning. Can't wait to show you the dramatic (I hope) before-and-after photos. But that might have to wait until we recover the sofa and chairs. They're looking kind of tired and we can't get Dudo to understand that they're not scratching posts.

GREEN PISTACHIO.

Santi (our painter) was supposed to start at 8:30 this morning. Something came up; so he's starting tomorrow instead. Since we were already up and dressed, we went to Cafe Manila a couple of hours earlier than usual. It was a bit darker under the awning at 8:15. So dark that San Geraldo thought he was still wearing his sunglasses. You can see below how the very clever San Geraldo determined that he wasn't wearing them.

"AM I STILL WEARING MY SUNGLASSES?"

  1. Guess it's all relative when it comes to cold. You are correct Mitchell, I can't imagine 15C!! But I can DREAM!! lol
I LOVE to paint and am like San Geraldo in that I take my time.
Like the colours you have chosen and look forward to the before and after.

We really are spoiled when it comes to cold. I don't know how I ever actually survived "real" winter. Santi is painting right now. Looks SO good!!!

Nothing pale in the colors we chose.I have no idea where the name pistachio green comes from, unless someone is growing really dark and rich pistachios. Sahara is currently going on the walls. Love it!

  3. Those ocre walls in your apartment is Sevilla looked great. I can imagine those cooler colors in Fuengirolla will look stunning too.

We're doing more rich colors here. This apartment really needs the help to make the interior more interesting.

  6. We gave up painting after buying this house. We moved too many times and painted too many houses in our early years together. i'm DONE!

And I laughed at your scarf comment. It has been -20C here this fall and I still haven't gotten out my scarf. Gloves yes, scarf no. :)

Jerry sister loves building new houses. She always says if it's time to re-paint, it's time to build a new house. Minus 20??? That would be long underwear, gloves, scarf, three sweaters, parka, hood, hat, earmuffs... and a whole lot of complaining.

  7. How pointy are those actress' breasts

Didn't you know? All breasts used to be pointy. Something to do with evolution, I think.

  8. "A" scarf? I'm wearing a "fashionable" scarf (yeah, right... anyway I wear it while inside to keep warm... AND a wool muffler type scarf while outdoors... AND ear muffs... AND gloves... AND... well... let's say I look a lot like the Pillsbury doughboy. I wouldn't worry too much about the fashion police.... But my imagination is running overtime thinking of how your walls will turn out if/when they're painted. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

So cold in our house right now that I'm wearing a T-shirt. Santi is almost done with the first coat of Sahara Gold. The place is already transformed!

  9. Scarves should not be worn once the temperature rises to above 15, unless there is a particularly cold and cyclonic wind.

Now, the painter won't be able to skim off some profit by supplying the paint, so I guess it will cost you a bit more.

Great deal on the painting and he's really good!

According to San Geraldo the winds are always particularly cold and cyclonic. He, however, rarely wears a scarf (just long underwear, gloves, and hood).
