I'm Leaving Tomorrow

Nearly 40 years ago, I traveled with my parents and brother to visit my sister, brother-in-law, and niece. We flew into Amsterdam and spent the first week there before driving the few hours to their home in Germany. After a week there, I took the train back to Amsterdam. I had a friend there (she was staying with her father for the summer). I slept on their living room floor for a week. We went out for dinner every night with their friends.

SEPTEMBER 1974: BOARDING AT ROERMOND. DESTINATION AMSTERDAM.
(NOTICE THE "MARSHMALLOW" SHOES. I WAS VERY TRENDY.)

Thursday morning, I'm taking the train to Madrid for three nights. I'm staying with a friend. We're going out to dinner with her friends, and she's going to give me an insider's view of Madrid. No floor this time. I'll have my own bedroom and bathroom. Even so, San Geraldo has decided to stay home with the cats. I'm gonna miss him when I'm gone. And, like the below song says, I know the feeling will be mutual...

  11. When you said "30 years ago", a time when I was going to Amsterdam about 12 times a year, I was just about to say "Oh, so that was YOU in that sauna?" - then I see that you actually meant 40 years ago, a time when I was still a virgin - well, almost - well.....

Btw: Are you wearing a necklace in that pic? I shouldn't be surprised if you were. I used to in those heady, post-hippy days.

Do have great fun in Madrid. But if I was in your place I couldn't stop pining for my pussies.

    1. 40 years??? Holy crap! When did THAT happen?! Necklace: Either goldfish carved from an olive pit or a "teardrop" of petrified dinosaur dung. Nevet in my life been to a "sauna."

  12. 40 years - your photo is captioned 1974 - or have I got it all twisted?

Never been to a sauna? Shouldn't that be "Never YET been......" We await the relevant blog with considerable interest.

  15. You don't know how badly I wish that I could write that I was taking off for Madrid. Instead, I could say that I drove through Ames, Iowa the other day....Not nearly as sexy, huh?

OK. I guess I have to admit that I wouldn't trade with you. So sorry! (Although, I've never been through Ames, so I don't know... maybe it IS sexy)

  17. I was in Madrid back in 1978 -- when I was still in the monastery! Loved it. I was with a group of Carmelite students and we spent six weeks in Spain. I would love to get back there some day ...

And what a different place it would have been back in '78. You'll have to get back to compare...
