Too Much Excitement

It rained on and off Tuesday night. The wind at times blew. Wednesday morning, I cooked myself a gourmet breakfast of oatmeal (instant in the microwave, of course), Greek yogurt, peaches, and raisins. The peaches were halves from a can. I actually cut them — with a knife — into smaller pieces (like eighths). Sometimes I simply amaze myself. I'm thinking of hosting a cooking show.

MY GOURMET BREAKFAST.
I COOKED THIS ENTIRELY MYSELF... WITHOUT A RECIPE.

After our breakfasts, we headed over to Cafe Manila for coffee. Then San Geraldo went to Spanish class. I did laundry, trimmed the yuccas and cleaned up the plants on the terrace, and puttered on the computer. San Geraldo made salads for lunch. Later, I watched the sunset. Right now, San Geraldo is preparing another one of his delicious dinners after which I'll wash the dishes. Uff! What a day. I don't know how I manage. I should sleep well tonight. (Click any image to increase the excitement... if you think you can handle it.)

10:00 THIS MORNING, AS WE WALKED TO CAFE MANILA FOR COFFEE.
11:30 A.M.  THE SUNSHINE IS BACK.
LUNCH:  SAN GERALDO'S DAILY SALAD MOUNTAIN.
7:00 P.M.:  RAINING IN THE EAST.
CALM OFF THE COAST. A VERY CHILLY (EVERYTHING'S RELATIVE) 11C/52F.
NO WIND... AT THE MOMENT.

  1. PHEW! That tired me out!!
Your gourmet breakfast looks delicious and good for you too.......must keep your mother happy to see this!
I see you like daily schedules. We do too.
Question: what does San Geraldo have on top of his salad? Looks delicious!
Great photos too....we are being snowed in as I speak but as you said, it's all relative!

That's sliced sandwich meats on top of the salad, usually ham, turkey, and chicken. San Geraldo used to present each slice hand-rolled, but we realized that was a waste of time for just the two of us. My salads get the addition of celery and almonds. His get dill pickles.

  2. Just as I thought, you're surrendering to the cooking gods...next thing you know, you'll put poor Rachel Rae out of business.
Where are all those people who actually cook for you? Besides, you're in Spain, all you have to do is go downstairs and there will be some kind of food business a few steps away.

Breakfast out would be cheaper than what we do at home, but not as healthy. Cafe Manila has a mini-English breakfast for 1.95€ (eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes or beans, and toast) and a full-English double the size for 3.95€. And, if I wanted, San Geraldo would make breakfast for me every day. He regularly offers. (Rachel Ray is shaking in her apron.)

  3. 11 degrees is a temperature I dream of. I'm so sick of our heat. Good to see your kitchen skills are developing, although I suspect rather like myself, you are not quite as bad in the kitchen as you would have us believe and have the luxury of someone who cooks for you.

Most people are envious of the warmth. You have the opposite problem.

As for my kitchen skills, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  4. Sounds like our day--with some fresh snow on the ground--since I am "puttering" on the computer while Carlos prepares dinner.
    Life is hard.

We have such incredible salads for lunch that I wouldn't even think of ordering one in a restaurant anymore.

Eggs? I used to make eggs. Then I stopped. Then I started making Eggbeaters. Then that became too much work. The view is breathtaking!

  7. I'm worn out from all that excitement. You are a gourmet breakfast chef Mitchell, I'll have to stop by some morning...when things warm up a bit there!

Can you believe my day?!? I wore polar fleece today (well, and jeans and a T-shirt... and I had to unzip the jacket because I got too warm). You might be able to handle this weather, I think.

Moose is sitting out on the terrace watching the evening sights. Too cold out there for Dudo who is having a siesta.

  9. So tonight I made Texas Red, which is real Texas chili -- none of that tomato sauce and ground beef and beans stuff! And I envied your view since all I see looking out our windows is snow, with more on the way tomorrow. But as the lady at the pharmacy told me today, only 50 more days to spring (mas o menos) -- which does not mean 50 days until the end of snow, though.

Snow is beautiful to look at and to play in for a bit, but I don't miss the cold — nor the limitations. I remember those days when we would count down until spring. At least the days are getting longer!

  10. A beautiful breakfast! And you didn't cut yourself with the peaches. The first step toward culinary greatness! But lots of people can cook. How many are willing and able to do the cleanup. You already have an awe inspiring specialty. And with San Geraldo's salad!

I definitely prefer clean-up. I'm also kind of dangerous with sharp objects. (That "knife" I used for the peaches? Butter knife.)
