I Hope You Dance

There will be no whining in this post. It's been a week of ups ... and downs. And there's really no telling what will make me feel "up" and what will make me feel "down." But, that's OK; there are ups. I took a 3-hour walk Saturday along the beach and paseo and then up to the castle to enjoy the view. As I passed the port, I came upon a group of locals singing and dancing. Because they felt like it.

(Click any image to get your fill.)

CASTILLO SOHAIL, FUENGIROLA.

It was a heartwarming and heartbreaking walk. That's just the way my brain chemistry works right now. It will settle back down soon, I'm sure.

Still, I'm grateful. And my walk, and my ups and downs, and my gratitude despite it all, made me think of a particular friend I call "the tattooed lady," (although I don't think she really has many tattoos).  So this is dedicated to the tattooed lady and to all of you who sometimes fear those mountains in the distance.

A few videos today — two of the local joy and one from YouTube — so I'll shut up now.

When you get the choice to sit it out or dance...

  2. I am trying to imagine having a real castle in my 'backyard'.......
Good that you are able to enjoy a long walk and taking in the 'sights' and 'sounds', Mitchell.

There's a big shopping mall right across the river from the castle. If the old owners had known how convenient and well-supplied the neighbourhood was going to be, I'll bet they never would have left.

  3. walking, getting sunshine, being around others, and seeing others happy are all good tonics and balsams.

They're all at least worth a try. Sometimes seeing others happy only makes me more sad. Fortunately, today's not one of those days.

  4. Let's hear it for the "ups"! May they be greater than the downs.

Even 50/50 wouldn't be bad! But I've had two fairly decent days in a row!

  5. Sometime a walk in the sunshine gives you the Vitamin D you need to maintain a positive attitude.

Unfortunately, nothing worked that day, but I'll keep trying. Anyway, yesterday was good and today is better.

  6. Mitchell - the 2 local joy videos don't come through for me. I sure don't want to miss out on the local joy!

I'm so sorry about the videos. I don't know if you're using an iPad. I can see the videos on everything except my iPad Air 2, which is the case with any videos I produce now. I'll have to find out how to save them to be viewed there, too. Maybe if I post them on YouTube, they'll be viewable. I'll do so and will let you know.

  7. As if you didn't already endear me enough, Mitchell, you go and post my favorite song - and the one I danced to with my dad at my wedding. The words read like a beautiful blessing. It's the best.

This type of kind of sappy song usually turns me off, but the poetry of this one is stunning.

  9. Love the Lee Ann Womack song. I once used it at the end of a 30-day retreat I directed in Ohio as a send-off for the participants.

I once heard on the radio what I think was Leonard Cohen giving a commencement address and incorporating this song. I was in the car. It was amazing. And I've never been able to find it since.
