A New Set Of Wheels

I really hate the expression, "a new set of wheels." I immediately imagine it being said in a 'sleazy lounge act" kind of voice, "Whoa, man, I got a new set of wheels!," because I know someone who uses the phrase ... and sounds just like that... and I don't like him much. It's one of those things.

So, San Geraldo and I did not get a new set of wheels but we did get a new car. After more than five years of living without a car in Spain, we decided it was time to broaden our horizons. We love public transportation, but there are too many places we haven't visited due to lack of easy access or the need for planning in advance (rental car). Advance planning is not one of our long suits.

Even buying a car is a spur of the moment thing for us.

We knew what we wanted (we had the car before in the States and it was our favorite... ever).

We wanted it immediately.

It was a 3-month wait for one of our preferred color choices. So, we took the one and only car available in Málaga. In the one and only color they had. We're not picky.

NO, THAT'S NOT IT!!! (SITTING ACROSS FROM OUR BUILDING RIGHT NOW.)
NOT OUR STYLE. I SUPPOSE WE ARE JUST A LITTLE PICKY.
THAT'S MORE LIKE IT! IT'S A 2016 TOYOTA PRIUS.
WE HAD A PRIUS (2004) IN THE STATES AND IT WAS OUR FAVORITE CAR OF ALL TIME.

For our first excursion we drove 15 minutes up the mountain to Mijas Pueblo.

LUNCH AT BAR LA MARTINA ON CALLE MÁLAGA, MIJAS PUEBLO.
THE VIEW OF HOME FROM MIJAS PUEBLO. A WORLD AWAY AND ONLY 8KM (5 MILES).
SAN GERALDO CONTEMPLATING OUR NEXT ADVENTURE.
THE WORLD IS OUR OYSTER.

  1. Great choice! We are Toyota people as well and were thinking of upgrading to a Prius in the spring.

We've never really cared much about our cars. Comfortable and reliable was all that mattered. But when we got our first Prius, that changed. And this one is even more fun!

  2. Toyota are the best cars of cars, we have an eighteen year of age Starlet a wonderful motor and Betsy is right little go-er.

Our old Prius was the longest we ever kept a car. Four entire years! Maybe we'll hold onto this one for 17!

  3. What fun - a new car! I like the Prius. Do you see a lot of them in Spain? Now you and SG can arrive at your destination and not be all hot and bothered. Unless, of course, that is how you chose to be!

    1. Forgot to mention how much I love that fuchsia color on the car that is not yours. But I guess for as a handsome couple as you and SG that would be overkill ...

Ha! Yes, that's why we didn't go with reflective metallic fuscia. Our combined magnificence would be just too much to bare.

That fuscia car has been spotted in the neighborhood on other occasions. And everyone here had spotted it yesterday (no one was fooled by my lead-in).

Here, Toyota calls it "azul cobolto" (cobalt blue). In the States they call it "blue crush metallic"! Don't you think Sophie was look great in that reflective metallic fuscia?

Mijas Pueblo is a huge surprise. Next time, we're going to walk the perimeter and I'll share photos of the ruins and the old wall. It was a well-fortified walled city in ancient times.

  11. I saw that photo of the metalic pink car and wondered how the heck I would comment without inserting foot in mouth... No worry... the car you bought is so much more you... and yes, a Prius even more so. Just wondering... stick or manual shift? Or is that even an option with cars these days?

Here it's much more rare to find cars with automatic transmissions. But Prius only comes that way; however, I'm pretty sure there are other hybrids available with manual transmission.

The car was actually signed on the other side! But, I don't see it as gay at all. Reflective, metallic fuscia? Really? Well... maybe.

That fuscia car attracts a lot of attention but not the kind I'd want.

I can't for the life of me remember that show. But I DO remember Martha Raye as that character. So strange.
