YES, I KNOW THERE ARE STREAKS. |
We bought six large amaryllis bulbs and San Geraldo planted them in a long planter. We hope to have the same year-in/year-out success as the restaurant across the street (click here). We ordered a potted amaryllis for My Mother The Dowager Duchess every Christmas. As we selected our bulbs at the garden center, I had a moment of panic that we hadn't yet placed this year's order. Oh yeah...
So, we'll instead think of her as ours grow and bloom.
The new awnings (toldos) have been opened and closed again. We've had the windows completely open, partially open, and closed again.
Today's temps — a frigid 10C/50F earlier and now a chilly (Oh, please; I know) 18C/65F — have made us really appreciate the warming effect of a glassed-in terrace.
Dudo has been out there soaking up the sun. (Click the images to turn up the heat.)
BOTH AWNINGS DOWN. I'M ABOUT TO REMOVE THE BOTTOM SCALLOPED VALANCE. |
WINDOWS SLID. AWNINGS DOWN. |
AWNINGS UP. TWO WINDOWS BLOCKING THE INSIDE CORNER. A NEW WAY TO KEEP THE CATS OFF THE NEIGHBORS' TERRACE! |
THREE WINDOWS STACKED AGAINST WALL. |
WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES LOVING IT. |
Those folding panels seem to be very convenient for the cleaning and a space-saving solution, besides all the obvious advantages (apartment cleaningness, weather protection, happy cats). Enjoy them! apparently your cats are already doing it.
ReplyDeletePedro:
DeleteThey both already loved it out there. Now we leave the door and windows open all day, which makes them even happier. And Dudo loves the sun!
Like the neat scheme of stacking the windows - ah smears always a problem. We had a hard frost this morning still quite chilly outside indoors it is 22 c so quite comfortable.
ReplyDeleteHeron:
DeleteStill quite chilly outdoors here... 18C. But the terrace is wonderful. I haven't yet cleaned the new windows, so I can't take credit for the smears... but I soon will.
Love the stacking Windows too!
ReplyDeleteJohn:
DeleteIt was a bit awkward at first but it's already becoming very simple to do.
These windows and awnings open up a whole new world to you both and the cats!! What a good idea to do this. Now your terrace will be the 'talk of the town'!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, Mitch, a mere 10C here today as well.
Jim:
DeleteWe wouldn't do very well if it remained a mere 10C here all day. COLD mornings start that way. Back up to 18 again now. (And our terrace is the best-looking terrace in our building, I must admit.)
Wow cats love your new balcony
ReplyDeleteGosia:
DeleteBoth cats really love being out there whenever they want.
Wow, that's great!
ReplyDeleteJudy:
DeleteTaking a quick break from putting things together (somewhat) out there. We love it.
now THAT is a contented cat! has moose been out there yet?
ReplyDelete"So, we'll instead think of her as ours grow and bloom." - a nice way to remember the duchess.
anne marie:
DeleteDudo and Moose are in and out all the time. Moose, having a bit more fur -- and fat -- doesn't lounge in the sun as long as Dudo does. We'll usually find him under a plant or on a less sunny part of the terrace.
It's the cats' meow, Mitchell.
ReplyDeleteWilma:
DeleteOh, so clever... and it really is!
Looks beautiful, and I don't even see the view. Kindly move over, Dudo, I want to catch some rays too.

Robyn:
DeleteI took too many pictures of Dudo; he moved completely away.
You guys live in one of the nicest places I've seen, in pictures that is.
ReplyDeleteStephen:
DeleteIt's really a hell hole; Photoshop does wonders!
Our low temperature on Monday morning was 1.3ºC. I'm liking our new greenhouse more and more. And your new windows make your terrace kind of like a greenhouse (but nicer)!
ReplyDeleteWalt the Fourth:
DeleteI'm happy to see I haven't experienced anything below 7C since moving to Spain -- and man did I ever complain THAT morning!
Very nice! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteTravel:
DeleteNow if we could just get our acts together to arrange everything, we could sit out there and relax. We ARE making some progress this afternoon.
Wow, that's fantastic! Must make it possible for you to use your balcony more, too, no?
ReplyDeleteKnatolee:
DeleteWe're already enjoying the space, and so are the cats. We leave the terrace door and all the apartment windows open most of the time. It's like adding another 30sm to the living space.
