Doctor, My Eyes

San Geraldo and I had our eyes examined today. I know, I know, we should have had our heads examined, but we're saving that for another day.

The optometrist performed San Geraldo's exam first. Mostly in English. I could hear them laughing in the examining room.

San Geraldo came back out and said, "She told me I'm a little insane!"

I didn't find that very surprising really, but she then explained that she had told him in her accented but beautiful English, "You are a little changed."

He heard, "You are a little insane."

After my exam, which was done in Spanish, we sat at the desk and went over the order. I was pleased to learn that my prescription is fine for now.

The optometrist said to San Geraldo, "I will have you fixed."

I explained to her an alternative meaning for that phrase — i.e., what you do to cats and dogs when you don't want them to have little cats and dogs. We laughed so much that an hour and a half had passed before we finally left the shop.

Maybe I should have taken things a bit more seriously. Do these glasses make my eyes look big?

"You must help me if you can..."

Honestly, with English spoken with the accent, the words did sound quite a bit how Jerry heard them. Change sounds more like eshane, which to Jerry's ears would of course take him to "insane."

  2. "I will have you fixed" is a great line! Sounds like something I would say to someone in my terrible Spanish!

She was so embarrassed, so I then told her of some of our most memorable mistakes in Spanish — like polla (cock) instead of pollo (chicken) and preservativos (condoms) instead of conservantes (preservatives). She felt much better.

I'll only wear them when I'm entirely in black. Very chic.

  4. I suppose she could have said to SG "I will fix you up!" ;-)
Thought of you yesterday when I looked at what I was wearing while I did some dirty cleaning jobs - blue striped railroad ticking pajama bottoms with "SPAM" printed across the rear (purchased at the actual SPAM Museum in Austin MN nearly 20 years ago) with a pink and blue plaid shirt (purchased in Athens GA at least 25 years ago) and turquoise flip-flops.

I didn't even know what I looked like. I simply said, I need a selfie for my blog. It was even better than I expected; I love the red trim!

  7. You still manage to look handsome in those contraptions. I'll take a pair in pink.
Would the doctor kindly come to the US to fix a large sample of the population here? I'll provide a list.
    xx

I'm sure the optometrist would be happy for a trip to the States to fix those in need of fixing (whether they know it or not). I look handsome? I think it's time for YOUR eye exam!

I'm a bit slow to adopt the Steampunk style, but I don't think I was ready for it years ago. Just wait and see what's next.

  17. A great look, in the right place no one would think you were a little crazy - and try to fix that.
